Ann, I had to look up the crumble recipe, I used half fat to flour and then same sugar as fat, so.
    4oz plain flour
    2oz butter
    2oz sugar

Rubbed together flour & fat then stirred in sugar.
I used a mix of soft brown, caster and granulated sugar (using up all those bits) I also added some mixed spice to the crumble mix.
In the oven for about half an hour.

Now, I have read on here about freezing the crumble topping, so I doubled up and have a little tub of crumbs ready for next time.
(I found the recipe in my school cookery book)

    Thanks,,,now I remember,,,th_bravo.gif,good idea about freezing,,,school recipe book ,,hmmm

    thanks th_thanks.gif

REDRUBY, What a great OH you have, he can move lawns, I want one of those. (insert unavalable Smilie here ----)

Yes he is not a bad old stick, he also empties the bins, hoovers, mops, changes the bedding, gets the washing in, peels potatoes, and I have taught him to make a mean roast dinner, he is lovely and he is three years younger than me :T :D;)

Just popping back quickly to say I've just finished going through all the emails and doing all the surveys there. :o

Dinner ended up being a BOGOF from Dominoes pizza as there's nothing here. Feeling very full, and quite satisfied that I've got through all the emails.

Off to bed now, as back to work tomorrow and up at 4am!

    Evening folks,

Glad that many of you have had nice weather to-day...we are back to normal drizzle...although when I said something about the weather to a 78 year old relative he said that it is good to be alive so we should just accept what we get, so will be careful about moaning in future!

Ruby...do you know that you don't need to stew the rhubarb to freeze it...just wash, chop and bag and it will be fine, this is what I must do with the rest of mine when I get my new f/f, no room for anything at present.

Beth, so glad that OH is home and resting.

    Sleep well all

  • we've had lovely weather today. me and the bf went and sat on the cliff tops, then went for a drive then a short walk in the park. He's got a serious bad back (been off work for 12 months in total in the last 16 months) so we couldnt walk too far cause he didnt have his stick. it was lovely though :) we took a small box of hm hobnobs to munch on while we sat on the cliffs :)

Ditto (except for the ages - mine is 7 years older) ... though mine really did teach me to make a roast dinner.:D I still can't do the gravy though, that's his job!! :D

Sunnyday - I did shoulder of lamb in the remoska too! We've loads left over, I like the idea of the garlic pitta lamb kebabs, I think that might be tomorrow's tea thankyou.

Pixie - well done for today!! :T:T

Redruby - great idea about how you do your pork chops, I'll try that next time.

Blairweech - how about trying to add some red lentils next time? They're quite cheap, they do change the consistency slightly but I really like it, you could try a little at first to see if you like it.

Beth - lovely to see your post, hugs for you and your DH.

Mummysaver - thanks for your thoughts yesterday, I wanted to bake my first batch of muffins with the girls but one was at a party and the other at the cinema with friends, they all got back at 7.30. OH left at 10 for work, and there were no dramas overnight fortunately. I still didn't sleep very well though I was too on edge!

Well I've not done much today. OH's sister & family came round this afternoon and helped us to eat the muffins and hobnobs I made yesterday! Which is good because me and OH really shouldn't be eating such things. Pleased there are still hobnobs left though.
I cooked a ham in the slow cooker yesterday, I've just remembered that I only sliced some of it, I really need to finish that but it will wait for tomorrow now. I plan to portion it up and freeze it them it can come out when needed for sandwiches etc. I also blanched a load of runner beans for the freezer today (no idea how many but honestly there are loads, OH got them at a market auction for 40p!!). And OH has stewed some of the apples given to us for free. We're very lucky.

I'm taping Tess, don't think OH is bothered about watching it so that will save till I'm on my own, hope it's good.

    Hope everyone sleeps well.

    Hi guys,

We have had a pyjama day today   I spent some time last night checking timetables and have posponed the day out until next Saturday to maximise our time in Angelsey, the train service is atrocious on a Sunday and the first leaves after 1pm - much too late.

I have spent the day hemming school trousers, other sewing, ironing, a basic clean through the house after they went to bed, a lovely long bath for us all including the compulsory comb and teatree shampooing and I also managed to obtain a full 1hr 45 mns silence from the three as we watched the Spiderwick chronicles - great film - well worth the cost. I can't wait until LO is old enough for me to be able to drag the four of us to the cinema.

Lunch was beans/eggs on toast and tea was roast chicken with baked pots and broccoli and cauliflower with cheese sauce. Pretty lazy cooking really but hey! they enjoyed it and it's about the only veg I can get them to eat without hiding it. :rotfl: :rotfl:

LO came down this morning minus his dressing and steries telling me that it got better last week and he didn't need his plaster!!!! His toe looks bloomin awful but it's clean and he's happy enough so I will just keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Just got the lunchbags to do and also LO's diary (apparently the childminder is required to keep one now and I am asked to fill it in over the weekend) and I am going to have a couple of rounds of mah jong before bed.

    Pen-pin - good luck tomorrow.

Pixie - well done today, what a great amount you all have raised. :T :T

    Welcome glitterkitty.

Beth - your face must have been a picture when you looked in the microwave. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Mioliere - glad your headache is better today.

Haribo - hope you and DD are feeling a lot better today.

    See you all soon,

    Smoky. xxxxx
