Italians saying goodbye to their equivalent of BA? Nah. Can see it entering some sort of insolvency protection status and exiting with a big load of Italian state cash behind it.0 -

:A Question:when you pay for a holiday /flight,the travel agents or who ever you book it through at the time collect the fuel money for the goverment at the time of payment,seeing these people who booked a flight with XL and never got to use the flight they should be able to collect the money back from the goverment because the plane did not take off,so this means no fuel was used,does any one know how this can be claimed back,0

Question:If you book a flight a % of the money is collected by the agents and handed over to the goverment for fuel duty,this means that when XL went bust they went bust less the money that went to the goverment straight away when booking,this fuel tax money is still with the goverment and is payable back to the customer, because no fuel was used?If anyone knows how this can be claimed back please let Martins Money Tips know N/B I am not very good on the internet so if this is in the wrong section could you please put it in the right section,many thanks.0

It is unlikely that XL will have paid the flight/fuel duty to the government, as the tax liability is only incurred when the flight takes place.
So NO, you won't be able to claim it back from anyone other than the Administrators of XL...and I'm sure you know that customers come LAST in the queue behind the government and other creditors.
It's about time that the law was changed so that customers came first. Running businesses and countries is all about taking risks. Being a consumer shouldn't be!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Book by Credit Card, you can then claim from the credit card if things go wrong!0
