There is no tax on aviation fuel, one of the issues the Greens strongly object to. There will be more failures but it is mad to speculate, as others have said Alitalia has lost money for years but people kept booking with them because the fares were cheap and the Italian government just kept on giving them handouts. The warning they mightened have enough money to pay for fuel this week ash changed the situation, people stopped booking them and just to ensure survival the crew went on strike again. I am not a betting man but I doubt it will be here, in its present form, for much longer.
If you are buying seats on any airline direct from the airline, look for Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance, if the insurers say 'no' then you ought to as well0 -
alitalia price has drifted to 11/10 to go bust
with spanair second favourites, then sky europe and flyglobespan at 5's and jet2 now in the sarting line up at 16-10 -

Who knows?
All you can do is protect your position. Hope you paid by credit card.
Price of oil is coming down but for many airlines the damage is already done and their financers will be (fast) tightening their belts.0 -

Price of oil may be coming down but this is countered by the US $ strengthening - therefore oil is still costing roughly the same.0 -

Don't talk in 'drivel' please The Answer is = YES.Thomson 757 Man0 -
Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch, Jet2, Tui+First Choice, Thomas Cook, Bmi+Baby, Virgin A, BA, Flybe, Aer Lingus Are all strong enough to survive on their own without having to merge.
The Airline's that 'MAY' be at risk are:
Aurigny, Air Southwest, Scotair, Cityjet, Titan, European Aircharter, Eastern Airways, Astreus, Flyglobespan.
Some of the above will probably merge with each other before long, In order to survive.Thomson 757 Man0 -
Globespan good value at 5/1?0
