Thanks! I went to my bank today (Nationwide) to ask them about the charge back option (I paid with visa debit card). They told me that because I paid via paypal they are not able to charge back the funds I paid, I need to deal directly with Ebay and Paypal :o(

I emailed Met police yesterday and they called me within 2 hours! How efficient! Its a very good sign as it looks like they took this case very seriously!
We went to the bank last weekend and they told us we had to wait to see if paypal sorts it out then go back to talk to the bank. Then they will probably just say they wont pay out!!!

Don't worry yet, the banks often don't understand their own powers.

Let the paypal dispute continue to its conclusion and then if you don't get a full refund hit your bank again and insist they deal with you under the chargeback scheme.

I have just received an email from Ebay about Paypal protection, see the link below:
    https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/securitycenter/buy/PurchaseProtection-outside

That's the new rules and I believe that they only cover payments made since they came in which was either the 1st or the 8th (depending on which bit you read) of October.

Always worth pushing paypal though if funds are not recovered under the old rules, nothing ventured nothing gained

  • Dont buy from this guy. Site is total scam. Ordered Maclaren buggy over 30 days ago, still no buggy and still no refund. Have put in dispute with paypal and am awaiting verdict. Know at the time that there were at least 15 people with the same dilemma and posted negative feedback. He still has all our money and no-one had received their goods.

We are aware the guy is a scammer, you may find the rest of this thread interesting.

Out of interest and as someone is kepeing records, what level of protection did the auction show when you bought your goods, how much did you pay and when did you start a full paypal chargeback?

Also, you might want to add your complaints to the list going into Hillingdon Police station.

  • First of all, I'd like to thank Natalie1974 for letting me know about this forum by sending me message on ebay. Appreciate that.

For those, who are cursing themselves for buying from discountbuggies, there's no use of being angry, sad or mad etc. etc., so just relax. To be honest, when on 8th of Oct, I went on ebay and all of a sudden saw negative comments for that seller, I just smiled. I actually didn't think that someone offering payments using paypal and google checkout would be a fraud at the first place. Paypal needs to do some gap analysis in their seller signing up procedure.

Anyways, this is life and fraud can happen to anyone. You happen to find sharp and intelligent persons throughout your life, now it's upto them how would they like to use their intelligence.

I just take this incident as an experience and will learn from it. I tried to buy 100 pounds M&P Pliko and escalated claim with paypal on 9th of Oct. They'll wait for seller's response till 19th. I'll then see how they'll tackle this issue.

I don't want to be negative here, but to be honest, this online crime is a thing whose responsiblities and boundries have not been defined. So, police and local MP etc., will not be able to help (this is my viewpoint). We used ebay and paypal, these are the only 2 platforms which will decide what to do in this situation. If paypal denies to give us our money back, we can shout (and only raise our BP) and nothing else. At that point, we may need to go back to our bank and see if they can help or not. That's it. No other option in my humble opinion.

However, as far as I am concerned, if paypal will not give me my money back, I'll ofcourse loose trust and will not use paypal in future. Simple bycott. I'll also ask my friends/relatives to bycott using paypal, that is what I can do. Word of mouth is the strongest marketing tool. The only reason I use paypal is that my money is secure, so if it is not, I'll try my level best to reduce paypal's business. I hope Paypal would be wise enough in anticipating that trust is the core idea behind its business.

Will keep you guys posted. Thanks for reading my essay.
    Cheers
    Mirza

The police are taking this matter seriously and are investigating. Those of us that have already contacted them they have asked us to get as many victims of this scam as possible to contact them with their details.
