MS-> Barclaycard online account warning

Got a Barclaycard replacement for my Morgan Stanley card today. Phone up to activate it etc and thought I would set up a Barclaycard online management account.
Went though the tedious process of setting up the account and tried to log on when I was done. The logon failed without giving me any useful indication of why and told me to check my details and try again. I did check and try again several times until the account got locked and I was told call their internet support line number to resolve the problem.
When I call them eventually I am told that the account (like the card) is not active till the 22nd Sept and they can't access it till the 22nd and I will need to call again after the 22nd.
How crap is that? I can create an online account for a card that is not yet active and attempt and fail to logon apparently because it is not yet active without it telling me that is the cause and do it enough times to get the account locked.

I haven't read the details yet but I am wondering if you can set up the online account online rather than by phone.
When I received my replacement card there was no instruction that the card had to be activated like the MS ones had to be. So I assume there's no need to activate the card by phone.0 -
Was there not a sticker on the card saying phone 08000.... to activate? As there certainly was on mine.0

Very annoying....I haven't received my New replacement card. Still using my old Leeds BS credit card. Today, tried to log in my account. Failed....it seems I have to wait untill I get my new card to register the internet service again. Useless.....0

Sorry if my post confused. The card had a sticker with a number to call to activate it. The online account was set up online not on the phone.
I though all cards nowadays required a call for activation. Just an attempt to confirm it was received by the person it was sent to before it can be used.0 -

Some do, some don't. I have seen reports that it may depend on the bank's risk assessment i.e. whether they think it's going to a flat or a property with shared access to the mail, or through a sorting office with high rates of card loss, etc.0 -

I don't understand that, I would have thought that they would all do it being a good chance to try and sell you something.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
does anyone know for a fact whether we are going tp be charged £20 annual fee when using the new Barclays card?0

I have read through everything they sent me and there is no mention of an annual fee. They are marketing it as more or less the same card as the MS one and highlighting the differences. If they want to charge an annual fee they will have to tell us before they do!0
