I have been waiting on a response from the CAA for 16 weeks now with out success. Also having to send in numerous batches of documents where the goalposts have been changing on what they actually require (all by special delivery at just under £5 a pop)

Does anyone know if compensation can be claimed for things like postage costs, telephone costs (an average telephone call can last from 45 mins to an hour I have found)

Also, as I am claiming for expenses incurred whilst abroad (I was due to fly home the day of the collapse), there is a large amount of interest building on the £2.5k I am claiming from the CAA  , can any of that be compensated?

    Thanks
  • Hi,

I am also very frustated, I am still waiting for a refund. I paid the deposit on my credit card, which they have refunded, but stated that were not liable for the whole cost of the holiday. The CAA state the credit card companies are liable, and I keep getting passed to and fro between them. Why bother have ATOL protection when it is not all it is said to be. We we due to go on the 16th October 2008 with TCD, and I am still fighting for a refund. I have made many attempts to contact CAA CEGA but the phone nevers get answered, I am still waiting for replies to the last 3 letters. I have also contacted ABTA, who are now looking into it, but have not yet received a reply from them. I wonder how true the statement from LULULU1 re Tescos requesting their money back as they state the CAA are making the refunds.
What a whole lot of hassle this has been and from reading others experiences, it does not look like its going to be resolved anytime soon.

I've also been waiting 16 weeks now, i think it is unbelieavable that atol/caa are being allowed to get away with this, i don't care if there were 200,000 claims made. Since september when XL collapsed all we have been getting if fobbed off by these people. Everytime you ring cega your waiting on hold for nearly 1 hour and when you do get through you get told there just waiting to pay the claims and everything will be sorted.

I rang up first week in jan and was told all my paperwork was complete and it has been passed to the payment team, 2 month's later no money and when i ring up this time i'm told i need to send a copy of the invoice in again and then they will send a later out which i need to sign and then it will be passed to the processing team.

These people dont know there elbow from there a**s.

    Rant over phew!

Visa are requesting the money back from us too after being reimbursed late last year so yeah its very true. What a shambles!
  • Progress from my post yesterday. I had a letter back in Feb from the travel agent I booked through. I chanced a call and she was very helpfull. 2 hours later I received a call from her advising the CEGA had my file and it had been sitting dormant for the last month as they needed more info....this after been told that they had all the info they needed. This was something to do with the travel agent supplying confirmation.. which she did by fax. What a farce!!! the other thing she advised was that the claims are not been done in date order ie travel date... they are just doing them on a random basis!!!! laugh I almost cried... working in customer service sector this is a total farce!!! pathetic springs to mind... plus other explicit verbs.....
  • Hi,

Has anyone else had it confirmed by their credit card company that the CAA are now making the refunds?

It all seems to be a bit wishy washy, and I think its about time the CAA/CEGA gave some straight answers.
  • Recieved a letter yesterday informing me that they need further information in order to process my claim!!

They need another copy of my bank statements, despite the fact they were sent in with the original claim!!!!!

The CAA are really starting to annoy now - can we complain to anyone about this?!
  • Hi,

When I sent in my original claim from to CAA/CEGa, after not hearing antyhing for weeks I contacted them and was informed that they had not received anything from me. As requested I included all the original paperwork, and sent it recorded, but they still denied having received it. I am so fed with all of this that I have contacted Watchdog, to see if they can become involved. I am waiting for a response.

I think that the whole system of refunding needs clarified and people have waited and been messed about for long enough.
  • Maybe we should all do what lizzie9171 and jimbraund have done and contact Watchdog, I will. I also entered a link on one of my previous posts to give your comments on the same subject on the BBC Money Box, we have all got to keep fighting, this is our money!
