I booked Freedom Flights through Travel Republic. I paid by just over £600 by Tesco Credit Cards. I contacted Tesco and also lodged a compensation claim with CAA.
After some problems Tescos paid up in December last year and I did not persue the claim throug the CAA.
In January Tesco wrote to me saying they wanted their £600 back as all claims were now being dealt with by CAA and the payment was made in error. They said they would take the money out of my credit card account in April.
In January I wrote to CAA but only got answer phone saying payments were being delayed due to legal problems.
Any advice of where to go next.
Many thanks in advance.0 -
hi guys, im also waiting on news from caa despite recieving my claim acknowledgement on 16th october.
i had booked my TCD holiday by debit card and assumed things would be dealt with quickly but that was wishful thinking!!!
i have tried phoning the caa on the number they provided but getting them to pick up a phone is mission impossible as well as no response to 10 emails i have sent so far:mad:
i would be most grateful if anyone has any numbers they could pm me to try to get a hold of someone because im starting to fear for my money .
thanks.0 -

These are the phone numbers I have used for ATOL/CAA: 0207 453 6394
0207 453 6350 and 0207 453 6700. It may take a while as they are often engaged but keep trying. I hope the numbers are still working as I have not used them for a few weeks.
Don't bother with emails, they answer with stock reply if they answer at all.
If anyone is having trouble getting refund from credit card companies under section 75, may I suggest they ring the Financial Ombudsman who is very helpful.
I have now had my refund but only after I rang ATOL who said they needed more info before they could refund me. If I had not rung them I would never have known. So my advice to anyone who is waiting for a refund is to ring them asap. Good luck and let us all know how you get on and DON'T give up.0 -

Hi,
You are in a similar position as we are, we will have our Visa Credit Card charged again next month too (after being reimbursed). I have rung Consumer Direct and they have advised we write to both Visa and CAA again saying we have sought legal advice and we are claiming for the whole amount owed to us, (ours isnt just the flights, please see my earlier post, page 15). And that we want to hear back from them within 14 days. I'm not hopefull this will work but if not I will be back onto Consumer Direct for my next move. Try them theyre very helpful, number in the Phonebook.
Good Luck!0 -
As I received my acknowledgment from the caa/cega a month ago today but no further communication since, I gave them a call this morning. After less than an hour they did answer the phone and I was told that the travel agent did not send them all the information and that I should send them the original invoice along with my original credit card statement. This is despite the travel agent, after authorization from the caa, did pay back to me some of the outstanding balance. So my claim is standing in the queue, apparently waiting for some more paperwork from me, without anyone contacting me for a month.
I's getting harder to see it as mere incompetence. Does anyone know of an escalation path for complaints?0 -
I called CEGA up again today to find out where my claim is, they have all the paper work and said they've tried to pay me two or three times but don't know what the problem is and i should be pain anyday now. I'm starting to lose my patience with this0

There does not seem to be as much activity on this subject anymore. Does that mean the majority of you have now been paid out, or are you just like me, sick of waiting. I received my claim reference number over 13 weeks ago and have heard nothing since.0

I phoned last week only to be told that they needed me to fill in another questionaire and for section 11 to be filled in by Thomsons who i rebooked flights through. The questionaire turned out to be two questions 1 about weither i had a invoice off freedom flights and the second asking if i bought the flights knowing the company was going down the pan Stupid Stupid question.0

Hi its getting tiring and frustrating at the lack of effort been made by CEGA. Not answering the telephone and a general fob off when questioned (back in Jan). I am so frustrated as they still owe me £620 which I need for a holiday in June and as it stands at this rate I wont have it returned by then. Is there anybody who knows how we can get this sorted????? I even read that the CAA had run out of money and was looking to Parliment for help...is this right??/0 -

Nowhere near sorted!
I spoke to them last week and was told it could still be a couple of months due to the volume of claims recieved!
Then I was told "Dont worry - we are getting through them quicker now!!" I had to bite my tongue and restrain from shouting at them!!!
I recieved our claim number 16 weeks ago and still not a penny!!!0
