As far as I know, any payments made by debit card are paid by the CAA. I paid by my abbey debit card. Its only credit cards that are covered under section 75 I believe.0

....balance of just under £2000 paid by barclays debit visa card .(wont do that ever again!)
....applied to caa for refund ....told to go to tesco under section 75 ...did so ....just got letter back go to barclay visa they have got to pay claim ... help!! are they right or do i have to persue tesco ???
I thought if you paid the deposit (over £100) by credit card, then the credit card is responsible for the whole amount even if you paid the balance by another way i.e. debit card. See Martin's article Section 75 Protection on the right under Financial Crisis.0 -
Yes its the credit card company you have to claim from under section 75,atol won't pay anything to anyone who has paid anything by credit card!! even if they credit card amount was as low as £10.and the rest was by debit card, even if that amount was £2000 or more.0

thanks for all replies . i went to tesco who have already refunded the deposit so under section 75 i thought they would pay out but they have told me that barclays visa are liable cos the balance was paid by debit card on my barclays debit visa card . but i dont use the visa side of it . i just feel i am being pushed from one to another . does anyone think barclays could be liable before i send all my documents off for no reason just to be refused . x0

Hi all, i paid for my flights on debit card and received a letter in december asking for the original confirmation from my travel agents. I mailed this back and then called them last week (giving them plenty of time to catch up as i didn't want to call them and distract them from processing the claims)
i was told they need evidence that the payment card was my account (statement) and when i asked they hadn't asked me for this since december and its taken me to call in february to find out they need this extra document before they can process my claim, they claimed they have been too busy to send out letters yet.
This has now been going on since october when the claim went in and i am still waiting for my refund.
If anyone else hasn't heard anything, check with them that they have all your details so they do not delay paying you out.
Good luck0 -
Just spoke to CEGA for the 5th week in a row to get a status update regarding my claim and apparently there is some information missing, and my claim can not be processed without it. Then i am informed that they have not had authorisation from head office yet to pay claims that were part flight, part accomodation and this would take another 2 weeks. Intotal i have been waiting 17 weeks for a refund now.
I have emailed watchdog about this and suggest anyone else who is being ripped off while the CAA gain interest on our money follow this link

I'm being messed around by Lloyds TSB - I paid for my flights through a travel agent on my mastercard credit card.
After saying they'd accept responsibility they're now saying I have to go through the CAA first, and will pick up the tab if the CAA don't.
Forgive me for not reading through this entire thread, and I believe I'm correct but just wanted to check; they're liable, aren't they?Doing my best as a contrarian investor...property, banking...let's see how it goes0 -

With all due respect, your money was plundered into XL and went down with them. Either that or helped pay off some of the senior managers (who never loose out in these situations). Ahh yes, the XL management, who will be operating flights from UK airports again this summer, using the same aircraft albeit with a different name painted on and registered in a different country. While XL staff are still jobhunting, and people like yourself missed holidays and are still fighting for refunds. THAT is the scandal in all this, not ATOL. If your going to email Watchdog about anything, i'd suggest that.
When your money does come from ATOL it comes from a pot that was paid into by everyone who booked a package holiday last year, regardless of who they booked with. Frustrating yes, but ATOL are just trying to pick up the pieces the best they can.0 -
Hi All,
Wonder if anyone can help me.
When XL went bust the CAA 'ogranised' replacement flights for travellers abroad to return home.
Does anyone know if there is a list of what these replacement flights were, there was a list on the caa website around the time but i cannot find it.
Im looking to find the list of XL flights and their replacement flight numbers.
Thanks
