  • I would ring ATOL. I rang asking when I would receive my payment as I received the onformation on the 26th of october and they said it would take about 12. It had passed 12 weeks so I rang had a bit of a rant down the phone after they told me they could not set a time frame. Low and behold a week later £244 was put into my account

Just to report back my experiences, today I received a check from the travel agent (A1 Travel) for some of the fee I paid. Air passenger duty (£80 for two) and APC charge (whatever it might be: £2) was explicitly turned down, and the refund was a £100 less than the actual flight charges, thugh this may be a typo on their part - I will be enquiring it. As of the process, I originally submitted all my paperwork to the travel agent in late September. My info was forwarded to ATOL in January - I learned about this when calling the agent asking for the status. I was told that the notification to me has been posted, but it has (still) never arrived. I received an acknowledgement from the ATOL apponted company on the 9th (with my reference) and the payment was dated on the 16th. So almost there, but the missing £100 and the unpaid "air passenger duty". Anyone has any info if the latter should be covered too? If not, why not? Thanks, kAos
  • I never got a paper invoice from Travelcity. I have been very patient and waited. I even sent a E Mail three weeks ago asking how I stand, had no reply. Now I feel like getting angry. Does anyone have the phone number for me to phone CAA direct.

    Thanks
  • hi. i dont know if this will be any help but here are a couple of numbers i was given to contact the caa.

    hope they help.
  • hi. just wondered if anyone could give me any advice. the story is long but please bear with me.

i booked with travel city direct way back in feb 2008 for a holiday to florida in oct 09. when they went bust i did exactly as i was advised to do. i put in a claim for the deposit which i paid on a lloyds tsb credit card. this was sent one week afted tcd went bust. i recieved a claim reference from the caa dated 17th oct 08 with a claim number 010/066xx. to date this is the only written correspondonce i have ever recieved from the caa. therefore after hearing nothing for so long i contacted the caa on the 12th jan to enquire about my claim and i was then told "we havent got round to those claim numbers yet but if you paid on a credit card we wont pay you anyway you have to claim from the credit card company". so i phoned lloyds immediately and explained everything and they told me to write in and put in a claim, which i did the same day. on the 28th jan 09 i recieved a letter from lloyds informing me that i was "too late to make a claim regarding xl as the closing date for claims was the 9th jan". of course we all know they are trying it on so i quoted the section 75 rule and all that and was basically told you wont get any money so get lost. i was so angry i phoned the financial ombudsman who immediately put in a claim for me. i recieved a letter last week which said sorry but you are still out of time and we arent giving you your money back. i phoned the fo who told me i have to give them til them til the end of march before they can take it any further. how can this be right. you wouldnt think such a large financial company would make so much fuss about £800. is anyone else havin the same problems as me????

I think there is a letter you can print off on the ATOL/CAA website which you could send to Lloyds/Financial Ombudsman. But ATOL should have sent you one. ATOL are telling some people to claim back from cc now under section 75.

I have put ATOL numbers I have used on previous post, it might be worth giving them another ring as they should send all your originals back to you.

Yes print off the Atol letter also print of the letter on this website just filling in your own details, they really are trying to fob you off,ask them if they are going to refuse this ask which part of section 75 they don't agree and to put it in writing with then send that letter to the financial ombudsman again!!
