Dont forget though, even if you book on credit card, if you book through a travel agent you would still have to CAA claim.

Credit Card would not just refund it.

Sorry to hear of the problems but don't see any point in the claim being refused for missing a part out if it wasnt actually missed out? Makes no sense?

To me it seems they are trying to get more time and make out it is our fault. but I know it was signed as my mother signed it, then I got my husband to sign it later that night along with a few other things. All 3 of us remember it.

They did a similar thing to me when I phoned them. They said they needed bank statements and section 8 filling in and that they'd written to me. But I did not receive anything from them. I've since sent them all they requested and spoke to them to make sure they got it and they still say it will be another 4 weeks!

On BBC's Working Lunch they said they expected to refund everyone by end of April. But they didn't say which year!

It will be 12 weeks tomorrow since i rec'd my claim number and have not heard anything yet, what's the best course of action to take?
Sit tight and wait. Might be worth a call or email to them to check that they are not waiting for info from you.

Seems they have had some claims where they need more info but have either not told the claimant or the info request has not got through the post to them.

Was booked flight only with Travel Republic, who didn't want anything to do with my claim for compensation so passed to my Visa provider RBoS (citing section 75) who paid me compensation in full on 22 Nov. Received a letter this morning saying that I now have to make a claim to ATOL and they will be debitting the amount they credited me with in 12 weeks. Do I have to go along with this ?

Its a refund claim not compensation claim. And yes you do have to go along with it as its correct I'm sorry to report....

Travel Republic would have lost the money if the charge back was allowed as that is who you paid. As they didnt go out of business the charge can not be put in. You needed to claim from CAA in the first place. Travel Republic will have defended the chargeback so that they did not have to pay you back.

Travel Republic may have sent you the confirmation details from Freedom Flights in which case you will need to send that along with pleanty of other info and a claims form to CAA and wait for the claim to be paid out.

Whoever told you to claim of VISA in the first place is in the wrong I'm afraid. But be warned, the claims are taking a long time.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news but accept it and get on with the claim process ASAP.

I called the travel agent (A1) last week to see if there had been any progress with my claim. Their answer: "we have just forwarded your data to the CAA, and sent you a letter for notification, have you not received it?!" No I haven't, from either party. So I tried to call the CAA on the number the T/A gave me. A prerecorded message gave me another number. A prerecorded message there informs not to use this number, unless explicitly asked to. I listened some brain boggling music for 15 minutes, at which point I gave it up.

It's been 4 months so far and I haven't received any refund, nor even a note, a reference or anything that my case is being looked at. Let alone any ETA...

And the irony: I keep getting marketing spam from the T/A encouraging me to beeo my next holiday with them....

Others have reported delays with A1 Travel only sending in claims in the last week or so. It will 14-21 days before the CAA acknowledge it so calling them before it is in the system is unfortunately a waste of time. You should ask A1 why they didn't send the claim in September........

Unfortunately, a lot of people have not even received an acknowledgement from ATOL after sending their claims to them months ago. The only way they are going to find out if ATOL have got their claim is to contact them.
Of course, if the travel agent is dealing with sending in the claim then they have to confirm with them when it was sent by them.

I found out from my travel agent that they had been sent the acknowledgement when it should have been sent to me as I had NOT assigned over the claim to them.

ATOL do not appear to be too efficient in sending out letters for extra information. When I phoned them they said they had sent me a letter asking for extra info but I did not receive it.

If I had not phoned them then I would never have known and would still be waiting and hoping they were dealing with my claim.

By the way, I'm still waiting for my refund which, according to ATOL, should be another 4 weeks. I submitted my claim in October.
