  • i have just got the sky+ offer (free reconditioned) with free installation. I phoned up cancellations saying that i am a shift worker and i dont get to watch the programmes anymore and i was going to switch to freeview. getting installed on thursday afternoon. It took a bit of stubborness saying that I was going to cancel but i stuck to my guns and it worked! Hope this helps

To get the best possible value, you'll need to take 2 bites of the cherry.

Firstly, go through cancellations and try to get a good deal on a package that works well with Sky+ - Sky Sports at 1/2 price (£18 a month) for 5 months is currently the best. Don't take any 12 month price reduction deals if offered, as these re-commit you to another 12 month contract too, and you won't be able to call back for a second deal on Sky+!

Secondly decide whether you're going for the free Sky+ box, or the multiroom deal. Then, a day or two after securing a good package deal, call back to cancel.

Would the Sky person not get suspicious when you ring back the second day to cancel after getting such a good deal the first day ?

    a) your dad's account:
Re-activate your viewing on whichever package you like. Call up 24 hours later to cancel. Once you're thru to cancellations, say you're cancelling because the box is broken, you've been quoted £65 for a service call or £159 for a Sky+ box. They will offer you the Sky+ box for the price of a service call (£65) and free installation.

Monstermind, I can't thank you enough for your tips on here. MSE is just a bit too popular these days, so Sky probably read these threads, I just hope they don't try and get like the thread closed down (like E2Save did).

If I try the trick of saying the box is broken, will they know if then I use the box between the phone call and the installation of the Sky+?

Does it matter if I'm not using the box that was originally supplied?
  • i just got current package £5 for 4 months (using the freephone number 08005875707)

    so a great result

    thanks!!!!

If you book a box office event after the call, and the box then sends a message back to Sky via a phone connection, then they'll have that info.
It's not something they'd ever go to the trouble to check though.

Sky boxes can only ever send info back to Sky via a phone line, and they only send pay-per-view order info and some basic technical info (box number, card number, phone number if not withheld), other than this Sky can't tell if your box is working, what you're watching, or anything like that.

It really doesn't matter what box you're using.

Pin is on Movies 9 and 10 so they can show higher certificate movies before the watershed. I don't believe there is any extra cost.

    Hope this helps.

  • Phoned Sky - Pleaded poverty and said that I would have to seriously consider cancelling Sky and go down the "Freeview Box" route.
As a result I have been given a 1/2 price deal until Jan 2007!

    Thanks for the tip!
