If you have NTL (on basic or family pack) and are thinking of an additional stb, I would suggest getting a sky installation instead, There are a few deals around on sky that will make the new box cheaper than if you just added an extra NTL box - especially as NTL charge £25 installation (usually this is non negotiable) - not cost effective if you have the 'Full' package unless you get a really great deal from sky

Having boxes from both providers gives you great bargaining power with each.

Also - If you currently have an additional STB on NTL then cancel it and tell them what you are doing ( I did this, they accepted my cancellation but rang after a week to offer me the additional box free for life )...

    Hi,

After reading about all the amazing offers from sky that ppl have managed to bag, my husband decided to try his luck with sky plus as hes been wanting it for ages. He rang the 0800 number and managed to get the following offer:

    - Free sky+ box
    - Free installation
    - 1st 3 months full package at £10 per month. After 3 months i can downgrade to a cheaper package if i preferred.

He even mentioned that he was referred by my father and managed to bag him £50 of M&S vouchers.

Apparantly at first, my husband was told that the above package had expired on 22nd June. However as my husband was nice, the lad said he will speak to his line manager and see what he can do. He even offered an addition box for free with free installation. Sounds great but we didnt need it and would have had to pay £10 extra a month subscription.

Was very pleased indeed. They even booked us in for installation as early as friday.

Hope that has helped someone try and get the same deal.

Took the plunge last night, phned Sky, best deal I could get from them was £65 for box, free installation, keep existing £21 package ( no movies or sport) and installation next Tuesday. New 12 month contract, with phone connection etc. Was hoping for multiroom but Sky guy would not budge. took about 35 mins in total, using freephone number.

Had my 2 year old sky box upgraded to a sky+ one yesterday,

was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's any money to be made in selling the old sky box?

saw some for sale on ebay, though not sure how that works as I assumed you would need a subscription & dish too to get channels.

    Many thanks

Sky are not playing the game. Where did I go wrong?

In April I was offered a Sky+ box for £65 fitted. In the end I went for multi-room for £89. Today I tried to get my in-laws a + box for a similar price. I rang and got straight through to Craig (a Scot) who offered me a + box for £89 which I accepted. I went away to get a credit card but when I got back, 30 seconds later, the phone was dead. I re-dialled and spoke to India who eventually transferred me to Mike who was based in the NE of England. Mike was unable to give me the £89 offer and said that he knew nothing of such an offer. instead quoting £259. He was unwilling to co-operate to trace Craig and seemed willing to lose a longstanding customer who is paying over £40 a month plus Prem+. I think Mike would have argued that black was white as he denied that the lady who had put me through to him was in India ("Sky employs Indians in this country") and said that, as a Sky employee, he had paid £259 for his Sky+ box.

I was on the phone over 20 minutes with Mike and was left feeling totally hacked off with Sky, as are my in-laws.

Cancelations department is the only ones who have access to the special deals ask for them when you get through.

As I have passed the 12 month mark I have just re-negotiated with Telewest who were very polite & helpful, quite a strange experience from a customers service centre!

I obtained a quote from Sky as if I was a new customer and worked out what it would cost annually, told Telewest who offered me a better deal, saving me £142-00 for the year.

    Quick, polite and ...helpful.
