Not wrong, but not quite the whole story - you can drop your package to minimum immediately and give 30 days notice on the remaining minimum package.
So by any other name you 'cancel' some of your services today. It could be a few quid if you are on the top package - sky will not typically tell you this trick and will happily let you pay for your total package for the next 30 days.
Drop your package before you mention cancelling though - I had problems getting a refund when they issued the cancel instruction before I asked about dropping the package prior to effective cancellation date. That gave them a system headache.0 -
We are old NTL customers and are currently still within the initial 12 month contractual period - does anyone have experience of haggling a better deal during this period? Is it worth a try?!0

I was thinking about dropping to the basic £10 per month to still receive sky+ capabilities.
Might wait till the end of the footy season though

Hey_Dude wrote:I kept it nice and simple.
I told them I had been a customer for years - had recommended many people to them - and one of these had got the 4mb BB and 24/7 Phone deal for £25 a month.
Told them I wanted the same (all politely of course).
Can only suggest that you try again?

Thanks for your advice. I think it depends who you get. I just tried again and spoke to a much more pleasant person. She has allowed me to have Talk Unlimited for the same price as Talk Evenings and Weekends. It's not as good as some people have got but it's a start. I may try for something more in a couple of weeks as I would like to have 10mb broadband. At least I have got this reduction in the bag and can work on more. Thanks again.0 -
When I first got Sky about five years I took the top package for a month and then dropped to the min package for the rest of the year and then cancelled. I still kept all the equipment for the FTA stuff.
Surprisingly my Freesatfromsky card is stil giving me the free Feb month channels. :j
Rupert can't remember where he put the key to the encryption box.

Read my post in this thread and other. 2 mb bb + tv L for 9.99 per month0 -
I'm only on the basic "freeview" Virgin Media pack with Phone line.
Still in 12 month contract.
Currently I am on TV:Size M
Telephone - Line Rental £11.50 + 24/7 calls for extra £3 (earlier retention offer)
If I phone up and complain about loss of Sky one, do you think that there is a chance of a good deal given that I'm on the lowest possible package, and already have a retention offer on my account?
I could threaten Sky/BT, but really that works out as paying minimum £27 for services that I already get (plus Sky1).
Only really watch Sky 1, E4, Film 4, + usual freeview so no real incentive to switch if SKy 1 is the only loss.0 -
BettiePage wrote:Do you actually achieve 8 meg speeds or do you pay for UP TO 8 meg?
You do realise that you would only get an 8Meg connection if you clipped onto the terminals where your ADSL is tagged onto your line (normally soldered onto 50 year old terminals) at your local exchange..
You need to work out how far from the exchange you are (17070 or 147017070 line test ring back should tell you line length) then work out the loss of a 0.5mm copper twisted pair would be to your property.....;) There's still lots of aluminium cable and paper insulated lead in the ground...
Some people would not believe what their broadband connection is running through..0 -

I phoned today and got my level 2 TV for the price of level 1.
Dont dial the 0800 number they give out when you dial 150, select, the " i want to leave " option in the menu.
I'm gonna get sky anyway, just holding out for my contract to end...0 -

Does this give you the actual length of line or is it as the crow flies. I'm 4.3km as the crow flies but I'm sure it's much longer than that as my downline att is 63db.0
