JayK wrote:Hi All,
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. I’ve just called SKY, saying I wanted to cancel because my current subscription of £37 was too expensive.
I am on quite an old package which has seen a couple of prince increases recently. I have SKY Sports 1 and all the even numbered SKY Movie Channels (2,4 etc). I also had all of the channels available on the “Mix” packs (Variety, Knowledge etc). I also have SKY+.
The lady I spoke to did seem quite helpful and has offered me 2 of the Mixes and All of the SKY Movie Channels for £25.50 – this is for 12 months, discounted at 25% I think, and also includes my SKY+ subscription. I have been offered this and told I can opt out of it within 7 days.
Does this seem like a good deal – should I stick with it?
Thanks,
Jay
Hay JayK!
Did you cancel your sports package then..? If you still have sports AND all movies plus 2 x "mix" packs with Sky+ - that is VERY good, IMHO!!
Can you confirm this, please? That window's cracked on both sides!!0 -

Just made the call to customer services and managed to get 25% off for 6 months. I did however try to push for a free sky+ upgrade but it wasn't happening.0

Unfortunately this deal is for former customers only, to encourage them to re-subscribe. If you'd like to get a deal on your package, you'll need to call to cancel (see previous posts for what's currently on offer.)
For ex-customers only who'd like the deal, (a free grade "a" sky+ box, free install, 6 months 1/2 price), call 08706 080410 and quote "Autumn 1". Taking sky+ ties you in to a 12 month contract, but if you prefer you can just take the 6 months 1/2 price deal on its own (no contract, just give 30 days notice to cancel)
If you're a former sky customer who has been cut off with outstanding debt owing to sky, call 08706 080413 and quote "Autumn 3", you can get exactly the same deal if you pay 50% of the outstanding balance, the other 50% will be written off.0 -
I had been with Sky for over 13 years and around 6 years ago had paid their standard callout for a repair.
About 18 months ago, I had another problem and was told there would be a charge of £60 or so. I immediately said that I wished to cancel my subscription. I was put onto a woman who basically said they were doing me a favour but offered free repairs.
A few weeks ago, fed up with the charges I phoned and queried exactly what they were charging me for. I thought I was on the basic package, no sports or movies. I was told I was charged extra for Disney etc! I've never watched Disney and as there are no kids at home I could confirm to the sky person that it was not needed. Miffed at paying for packages I had not used, I asked how long their notice period was and could I give it to them now!
Again I was put on hold and another woman listened to my moaning about being charged for extra's I had not wanted. She offered me a deal being reducing my package from £21 to £15 per month and the £15 was discounted to £7.50 for 6 months. I queried if there was any ties with them and was told that I could cancel at any time.
So it's always worth giving them a call. The notice period is 30 days, so am I right in presuming if you do give notice, you can phone back and revoke if they don't givey you the discount? I was prepared to cancel so I guess I had nothing to lose. Will go onto Freeview after the 6 months, I told them this too!
Good luck all..haggle0 -
I happened to go to the Telewest site for a routine looksee and noticed that as from 1st Sept they are now offering Free TV with a phone line (£11.00 per month).
Now when we first signed up to T'West the basic TV came free with the phone line and then gradually they started charging for the now re-named Starter package TV service.
So I phoned them up and said that we'd originally signed up when the TV was free and could we downgrade to the new Free TV package. As we also have cable internet from them (Blueyonder), the nice lady said yes.
We now save £66 per year just by dropping a few crap channels that we don't watch anyway but still keeping what we do like.:D0 -
