  • Doh! And there's me thinking we'd got a bargain!

    We used to have:
    Sky+
Another Sky box in the kitchen
The full, all singing, all dancing package
    Cost £53.50 per month

    We have reduced to:
    Sky +
    Freeview in the kitchen
Everything EXCEPT movies (we have kept all the Sports channels)
New cost £28 for six months.

    Is this still pants?

I dont have sky plus but I have the same as you really apart from that. Someone else on here will no doubt have exactly the same as you though and hopefully give you a better idea but to me it still sounds too much more to pay just because you have sky plus. If you can get a better offer though you can still just ring up again
    Thanx

  • Hi All,

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. I’ve just called SKY, saying I wanted to cancel because my current subscription of £37 was too expensive.

I am on quite an old package which has seen a couple of prince increases recently. I have SKY Sports 1 and all the even numbered SKY Movie Channels (2,4 etc). I also had all of the channels available on the “Mix” packs (Variety, Knowledge etc). I also have SKY+.

The lady I spoke to did seem quite helpful and has offered me 2 of the Mixes and All of the SKY Movie Channels for £25.50 – this is for 12 months, discounted at 25% I think, and also includes my SKY+ subscription. I have been offered this and told I can opt out of it within 7 days.

Does this seem like a good deal – should I stick with it?

    Thanks,
    Jay

My personal preference but the mix channels are far more value for money than the movies channels

without any form of offer we have 4 mixes movies and sky= for 36

  • now you have mentioned that i am soooo homesick (no not for the german sex channels lol).
We used to have the analoug box when we first moved back to england and being away from germany for the first time my german telly made it a lot better for me, being abel to watch my german soaps and the afternoon or morning chatshows like trishe over here kind of thing!
but when sky went digital and hubby wanted to have the latest play thing to impress his mates lol , i lost all my beloved german channels, what i would do to get then back!! but unlucky me hubby is not at all an genious with all theese eletrical things and up to now i havent found and aerial guy in this loveley wilshire city who could install me an analouge box so that i can have my german channels and hubby is still happy with his sky plus and the kids with their cartoons!

I soon realised that I was paying £30 a month to Sky and I still didn't find programmes I wanted to watch. I then realised that the cost of about 3 months subs to Sky would buy me a non Videoguard Free To Air satellite box. These receivers pick up all the BBC digital TV and radio stations, ITV 1, 2,3,4 plus
Sky news and Euronews. Also all commercial radio stations are free to air also.
I find it's great. The box paid for itself almost immediately and everything is free.
Although Film 4 is free, currently the Channel 4 stations and 5 are encrypted, but they are still free via an analogue aerial or Freeview.
The satellite used by Sky is just one of many owned by Astra and if you have access to the old 19.2E satellite position then you'll pick up Eurosport in Englishon the analogue satellite site along with CNBC Europe and CNN plus Arte and German TV and radio. Digitally, 19.2 will also give you BBC World, plus all of the above plus great radio stations such as 10Gold, Sky Radio, Veronica and Klassikradio (which has some great chill out music). This last station, Klassikradio is also broadcasting in analogue still along with RTL Oldies. Analogue TV on 19.2E also includes Arte, 3Sat, NDR, Vox and RTL plus a further choice of about 15 TV stations. Bloomberg TV can be found for free on the Hotbird satellite again along with a host of good stations including
RaiSports. I'm never short of a TV station or radio channel to tune into and
I pay no subscription to anyone at all. This is what satellite should be like,
if you ask me. My bank balance is alot happier too """""

Well, it's finally happened, Sky + is no more. As from yesterday back to free channels only, and no call from Sky begging me to come back to them!!!

I got a card through the post offering 6 months full package at half price, refurb sky+ box, free installation etc. I relented and they are coming Thursday. The kids were driving me round the bend so had to do it!!!

Yep I got the same yesterday, as long as you take a premium channel you save the £10.00 for sky+. Also will get free broadband so should be cheaper then your provider (I am with Talktalk so till £10.00 better off and bigger bandwidth allegedly).
