  • I can't believe that I have wasted 10 minutes of my life reading this pointless excuse for a thread.

If anyone wants me I'll be sticking pencils in my eyes.

    My suggestions:

Proper policing of 'sock puppets' (multiple posting identities) would be welcome. There are a number of quite obvious shill accounts being used to post. I know that mods have ways and means to track them so they should clamp down.

Short term bans for having a go at other posters.

    Public warnings of infraction.

Inability to delete old posts so your post stands on public record should make people more careful about what they come out with, and disabling editing of posts more than about ten minutes after they are posted. That's more than enough time to correct typos or grammar.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.
  • Please no policing of this forum, it is far more fun without!

There are hundreds of other places on the net where you can go and be protected by some busy body, please just go if you feel you must, I'll be sorry to see you go as the more the better.

If a thread gets to heated then ignore it, if no one posts replys it will die. Please exercise some of that personal freedom that we all bang on about but most don't seem to want.

I don't really want someone telling me what I can and can't post just because a few people here can't learn to act like grown ups.

If someone wants to have several user names to help then make a point, then fair enough, little bit sad and pathetic but go for it hope its fun. 'sock puppets' (multiple posting identities) I think we should adopt this as the offical name for multiple posting identities, thanx !!!!!!?.

Wish I could take credit but 'sock puppet' has been around since Usenet days for multiple identities.

I'd be all for a 'free' environment like Usenet but let's face it - that just doesn't work. How many old usenet hands still regularly go onto usenet boards - very few I'd imagine. They have become like cesspits these days.

Some sensible moderation can go along way to making a board pleasant to read and facilitate discussion. Unfortunately, the 'debate' here was just getting more and more rancorous thanks to certain people looking for trouble. Theads were being destroyed by slanging matches and I have to put my hand up and say I was one of the people getting baited into them.

I'm making efforts not to respond to personal jibes but I fully support a bit of escalated moderating if it helps to make this board a place to talk about the vagaries of house prices.

Problem with any type of moderation is it starts sensible and the next thing you know your not allowed to tell children that the world is well over 6000 years old and anyone who says otherwise is a !!!!!

Then you have 10% of the population believing that the world was created around about the same time as someone who invented glue sniffing.

Extreme example I know but it all starts with people wanting to be polite and not offend anyone, the only thing that suffers is the truth.
  • Personally I think this thread was created for the sole purpose of causing the very scenario it describes. It's pure baiting. justpurchased (and friends) seem to live for these baiting threads at the moment. He / she knows how people will react and then can say "told you so".

It seems to me that bulls have moved away from arguing the facts regarding house prices as this is just no longer effective. They also seemed to have moved away from being overly aggressive. They now seem to take a much more subtle approach by posting comments which on the surface are quite reasonable and innocent. The real purpose if you dig a little deeper is firstly to detract from the fact that house prices are falling by muddying the content of the site as much as possible and making it seem like everyone on here just wants to argue. And secondly to make quite reasonable bearish people look unreasonable when they react to the baiting. This then goes some way to discredit their views.

    Just my opinion of course.

In the old days Meanmachine would step in with a 2 sentence reply and blow everyone away.

    Man, those were the days.

It's lovely to be oblivious to all the politics for a change.

I only come on this board when I feel like it. I can be fluffy all by myself on the main board knowing that most of the nutters aren't interested in lease extensions :D

I sat through an hour's presentation on the property market this morning. That's enough for me!

Keep on being fluffy doozergirl, there are enough women on here - as well as chaps in touch with their feminine side!!!!!! :D

What was the presentation about - if we can ask?

I must fess up to doing this to the bulls since I joined. Funny thing is, that once you get past the bull / bear argument, there are actually damn fine people on both sides of the divide, with one or two exceptions fairly equally split between those pov.

Because Martin Lewis enjoys nothing more than "policing" grown men and women who should know better.

    Hilarious.:rotfl:
