Bank Charges - illegal?

Hi Dchurch,
I have a bit of an update from my claim against the Yorkshire Bank.
They filed their defence on Friday afternoon (approx 24 hours before the deadline!) and set a copy to me via courier the same day. Their points for defence include the usual blurb ... but also that both account holder names were not included on the claims form (we later discovered that there isn't actually room for two names  ).
On the plus side they have since provided us with the bank statements so at least we now know how much the charges total. However, they have not provided statements for the other two current accounts we held nor the visa card so it's not a true figure really.
I wonder if you could please PM me the details of your solicitor friend, as I feel we may be needing his guidance and/or support at the court hearing.
Many thanks.:heart2: Tabs :heart2:

Hi I have already send away the first letters to abbey(£797) and lloyds(£165) and still have to write to Bank of Scotland(should be around£3000). I am confused about filing a claim. The moneyclaim website is only for england and wales, and I live in scotland. Is there a similar website or do i have to go to the court. Please can someone give me an idea of how i do it up here. Thank you and good luck with all your claims.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 086Proud to be dealing with my debts !Total Debt: Was £6368.84  now £945.36Sealed Pot Challenge 049 Aim £5000

He's not really my solicitor friend - Although I would definetly count him as a friend and a proper gentleman - he's the chap who runs the bankchargeshell email group - Bob.
If you sign up there and ask he will probably appear with you - although, I seriously doubt it will ever get that far.0 -

loads of info for scottish claims in https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk you can still claim but it is a different procedure so worth having a read around that site.Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
Hi
Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section, but I noticed a lot of people posting in the same thread about their cases ... great to read the successes; hopefully be able to add mine in there too at some point, and anything I can add re how things go, incase that's any use to anyone.
Intend to reclaim charges from NatWest, but need to open a new bank account first. Can I just check, if I close NatWest account, I can then ask them to freeze the interest, and I also say one amount I can manage a month? And they can't add in any extra charges? Been reading a lot of threads and sites, but just want to be absolutely sure, rather than repent at leisure.
Thanks, Cat0 -

Hi Dinkie
I dont really know the answer to that - are you registered on the consumer action group forum? It might be worth posting your own thread in there with all the details and im sure the knowledgeable people over there will be able to guide you further.
On a side note, I just wanted to let everyone know that Lloyds have agreed to pay boyf's claim - around £800. We are really pleased - DChurch24 & Bankfodder over at CAG really deserve medals - you have our unending thanks and respect.

Hi Jo
Thanks for responding. I joined the consumeraction group, posted, but after one response to a question, no more responses despite bumping it up. No idea why, as wasn't at all unpleasant or posting huge lengthy posts.
If any MSE-er would mind just briefly confirming for me, since I've noticed some people in this thread have dealt or are dealing with NatWest, plus everyone claiming back illegal bank charges must surely have first opened a new account elsewhere as part of this process, so must surely have an idea what general minimum amount is okay to offer to pay monthly to an account that is closed. I read somewhere that even offering to pay £1 is okay, but am unsure if this was someone's personal bravado, or genuinely what most people do, and succeed with doing, without incurring further hassles with x-bank.
I understand I must ask them to freeze the interest, and have already printed off lots of info and template letters for this, but can find nothing about specifically what minimum amount is okay to offer to pay a month and also no posts about anyone's experience with NatWest when opening a different account and closing the NatWest one, although I've read all the threads and seen that some are dealing with NatWest. Otherwise, all I can gather from that lack of information is that there weren't problems when closing account and arranging monthly payments, so nobody's needed to post about it.
