ok requested my statements 24-2 from barclays, received them 2-3, posted preliminary approach for repayment letter to them today. Letter taken from the Bank Action Group website and used freepost barclays address from there too.

so from what I have seen on here the bank will send me some sort of standard denial letter...

Am about to make a claim for 5,000 pounds from RBS. Can anyone advise how long the whole process takes from sending the 14day notice letter, to getting your charges back?

too much for me to read but I will just add whenever I am in a situation with charges now I just ask my bank to waive and explain it just makes the hole deeper if they are arkward. I have found if you warn them in advance something is going to bounce they usually are easy going and waive any fee's.

Wait!! - Is the initial claim for £5000 or above? i.e. without the interest and costs added.

If it is, you may want to consider claiming for slightly less. If the claim is over £5k then you will not be protected from the second parties legal costs.

I still believe you would win; but, banks will play as dirty as they can if their past performance is anything to go by.

I've been helping my mate with this. She has been caught in a horrible cycle with her bank. She has been charged 500 to 600 pounds a month in charges by her bank. The effect of this is that when she is paid her wages are gone and her DDs bounce.

On top of that, because of the previous month's charges, the only way she can survive is by writing cheques to get her food etc which she is then charged for if they go over her overdraft limit.

So this month ends up with 500 to 600 a month charged, and as a result next month follows the same pattern.

The total sum would be EASILY more than 5k even without interest but I was going to limit the claim to 5k just to stay within the Small Claims arena.

    What advice can you offer?

    Thanks

    Al

I would get her to read the FAQ's on the BankActionGroup website.

Im going to send another letter saying what full refund within 7 days or issuing my court claim plus interest & costs.

Hi I am considering going up against HSBC for £1920.50 (+interest) However i notice a lot of people paying for statements. STOP DONT DO IT If you bank online you can go back six years, i did last night and collated together what they owed me. If you dont bank online, register its free, and use it purely to go back six years.

    Good luck everyone

    Hi everyone,
I have been reading this thread with interest for weeks and have been amazed with both the advice and information given to people especially by dchurch24 .As I said in an earlier post this didn't apply to me as I don't pay any bank charges and never have ,or so I thought. That was until I looked back today on my earliest bank statements online(2002).I have now found out that they have took £129.29 3 x £20 .. 1 x £60 and don't laugh but a 17p and a 12p all charges for over draught excess fees going back to 2002/2003.I think the last 2 are reasonable charges ;) but even though the £120 isn't as much as some peoples amounts I think I should still claim it back .I have no idea how to work out the 8% interest tho.My question is would some kind person be willing to work out out my exact claim for me if I gave them the exact dates.
Also do you think it would be worth me asking for earlier statements or just use this amount ?
Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make
