I'd love to track the account down and tell you whats what but i'd likely get fired for posting here at all. No company likes its staff to give advice on behalf of the company without any supervision or knowledge.0

Paul,
I have appreciated your advice. You are obviously very knowledgeable and helpful. I can assure you that the information I have supplied here is absolutely correct.
I can also assure you that I will get to the bottom of this and will keep you and other readers posted.I have plenty of experience in problem solving and financial matters.
I am happy to handle the matter myself and would prefer that for reasons of confidentiality. I stated much earlier in the thread that this account belongs to my father in law, not myself, but it is easier to write about it in the first person.I set the account up online because he doesn't have a PC and was paying ridiculous amounts for so called loyalty to BG.
I sold the change to him, despite his reservations,on the basis that it would be much cheaper for me to handle it online and provide him with copy bills. You can imagine his disapointment and my despair when he rings me to tell me that within a month of the change his gas has risen from £38 to £45 and electricity has moved twice from £20 to £25 and then to £35.I know that there be a small margin of difference in the algorithm evaluating annual consumption, but for the electricity to be 66% too high and the gas to be 50% to high is mindboggling.
The other thing that is ridiculous is that they say they will return the credit if it reaches £200. Bloody cheek !! That represents a third of the total annual bill.
What I can't fathom is what has triggered these upward movements, initially mid way through a quarterly billing cycle? Then why two changes in a month upwards and after a change to a much cheaper tariff. Any ideas?0 -
Two new bills issued today following the meter reads submitted.
There is a bold note on the Gas bill that they have reviewed the monthly DD down to £30. Told ya !! :j
Electricity, so far unchanged at £30, when it should be £23.
Other interesting facts. They failed to take DD's in August for both gas and electricity.
Have e mailed to ask:
1) Why they upped the values in the first place?
2) Why didn't they take the DD's in August?
3) Why shouldn't the DD for electricity not drop to £23?
I forgot to ask for the refund of the gas credit balance but may now save that for the inevitable hike.
It just goes to show how you have to keep on top of these rogues and not be put off by lies and damn lies.
The electricity bill is a mystery in itself with four different sections/rates over the quarter.Haven't had time to investigate why that is, but will get onto it soon.
Chuffed and vindicated.........:beer:0 -

So what you saying is, the estimates were incorrect because they didn't have real reads, now you've given them real reads they have reassessed and its at a level you think it should be and for some reason you still think they are in the wrong. Odd.
Doesn't this in fact prove as I said earlier that given the correct information they will produce the correct direct debit?0 -
Paul,
I am sorry that your corporate loyalty is getting in the way of the facts.:rotfl:
On the 20/9/08 at 6.28 p.m. I explained that the previous gas reading was an actual not an estimate:
'Consumption over the last two years averages out 11,230 kwh for gas and 2,225Kwh for electricity. The consumption patterns are consistent over the two years. The last reads were an actual read for gas and an estimate for electricity. The electricity was read the quarter before and the estimate is consistent with last year's corresponding quarters actual.'
My father in law actually spoke to a customer advisor on the phone about the increases and they, like you, were still insistent that they were right. Now two days later, following my written representations, the amount for gas is down by 50%. As I said, I am asking for a full explanation directly from them and will let you know the response.Remember,on electricity,we had two separate increases within weeks moving from £20 to £25 and then to £35!! It just had to be an error, believe it or not.
The electricity account is still out of kilter and I will get that amended as well. They have firm readings right up to date for that and its still 52% higher than it needs to be, after isuing a bill.
Electricity Computer still says 'NO', but my calculator say 'YES'.:D0 -
To be fair to Paul, compared to some of the other BG employees posting here (the ones who have identified themselves, that is) he doesn't seem quite so indoctrinated by company loyalty and some of his posts are genuinely informative and helpful (how many other BG employees on here have called a BG product, like the 2012 Fix, basically crap, for instance?). In other words, I genuinely believe he's here because he wants to be, not because he's told to be.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Absolutely right. I noticed that as well. In this case,he doesn't appear to want to accept that BG have cocked this account up big time and for some reason doesn't want to accept my thorough analysis which I have detailed here.
At the end of the day,it is a simple matter,to calculate annual charges. For some reason, maybe the switch of tariff,BG have got their procedures or systems in a twist. The change of DD upwards, more than once, when it should have gone down and estimates not being the cause, then it can only be human or computer error.
Still, it is great satisfaction to have been able to tell my Father in law the good news last night. He was delighted.:beer:0 -
