And this is where 1Carmine should step in and congratulate British Gas for their benevolence in not undercharging your father for the forthcoming winter. Or is there one rule for British Gas and another for the rest?

    Kim,

The point is that I could accept that after the next Click 5 increase, the DD may have to go up,certainly for electricity and perhaps only a bit for gas given his existing substantial credit.

To be holding their rate down and increasing DD's at the same time is out of order.

You know these are vulnerable elderly people and they shouldn't have to worry or wonder why something is happening when it doesn't need to.

Baffling post. If his DD is set to the correct amount for Standard Rate (and he's a long-established standard rate payer so a clear pattern will have been established) and Click 5 is, at the moment, 50% cheaper than standard rate...why would BG require a larger DD immediately? OK, there's a rise coming but it hasn't arrived yet. Surely THEN is the time to look again at the DD.

PS I note that my detractors have gotten more vociferous (and numerous) since I started my crusade for energy company employees to 'out' themselves on here. Co-incidence? Maybe, maybe not. I'm going nowhere, I won't be intimidated into silence on this, but don't let that fact stop you trying. I love a challenge... :p

You've started a crusade? You mean you are a violent thug driven by fairy stories and a fundamentalist rejection of reasoned argument or observed reality?

You two seem to have some previous so I will let you enjoy the banter.

Kim, the original poster was a genuine customer receiving a cold call containing false information. My example was again an ordinary elderly couple having their charges raised when the logic was for a decrease. I went out of my way to try and help and reduce their burden only to find that they have raised the amount. It beggars belief really.

Surely, it is a strange stance to defend such actions because you have a dislike of another poster.

This reply , in the context of the subject matter , is just weird :rotfl:
  • I find the lack of reasoning in a lot of these posts to be a little frightening tbh.

You seem to be under the impression that businesses and their employee's deliberately lie to customer's in an institutional manner and have systems deliberately put in place to rip off the customer.

I have worked at nPower and British Gas and know this is definitely not the case.

Firstly the cold calling. From someone who has done a fair bit of it I can tell you that the 2011 tariff is a good one, although some may say it is a leap of faith that gas prices will not fall.

It IS more expensive than BG's rivals (if you have average consumption and pay by direct debit by around twenty pounds) but that is balanced against the protection of having your prices fixed for over a year longer than the best other offer on the market (E.On's fixed price 2010).

Gas prices are expected to go up further, in the next 18 months by 50% at least is current projections, in part due to the problems with a major gas pipe:

and in part due to the lack of storage and volatile prices.

ALL energy companies agree on this as do switching sites and the energy watchdogs. Over a three year period prices will not fall and you will save money.

If you look at the post made that shows wholesale gas prices you will see that since 2005 - 2006 seemingly the prices have held static however people that fixed their prices at that time are now paying around 50% for their gas and 40% for their electric on current prices.

Thank you, that is very sweet of you, but flattery will not distract me.
