.....My helper who normally helps on a Monday couldnt come till yesterday as she couldnt get a sitter for her baby. I was a little upset as some of the jobs I had asked to be done hadnt been or not done properly and she left just after an hour and I pay her for 2.5hrs. I wasnt around as I was at the hospital so couldnt say anything. I have spoken to her about leaving early before but dont know what to do:confused: ....I am so unfortunate with my choice of helpers and I really am a nice person to work for:D ......

Do they come through Soc Services or an agency? Maybe you could have a sit down with her next Monday, and get things off your chest, to "clear the air" a bit...and add to the list that she owes you 1.5 hours time that she's been paid for yesterday.....or maybe suggest that she could come back another day & do the jobs she has missed by finishing early. Just because you are at the hospital, it doesn't mean the jobs don't need to be done.

I don't like the thought of someone taking advantage of you, even a little bit :grouphug:

Malt whisky sounds like a plan, I like Talisker - tried it after reading a Rebus book whilst working in Edinburgh, lovely :D
It's one of my favourites - I went round their distillery on the Isle of Skye in 2002 (I was still able to walk then, albeit with a stick) and it was very interesting,:p We have some Islay at the moment, not quite as "peaty" as Talisker, but still very nice.
My excuse for the indulgence is that if we end up skint, it's something we can give up without dying!lol

Sunnyday - no wasps here; too damned cold!

Moneysavingdiva - thanks for the encouragement about your energy monitor - hopefully, mine will arrive tomorrow!

I'm still trying to find out how much it costs to run a gas oven so I can work out what my beloved Remoska is saving me. (Romski is what I've called mine and I have been heard to say 'Romski, I love you'!)

Troo - don't ignore the builders' caffs - how many men do you know who forget to buy cards?! Having them there in front of them when they are eating might result in quite a few sales, especially if most of them have 'Wife', 'Girlfriend', 'Fiancee' or Mother' on them! You could even have a banner on the stand saying 'Forgotten the most important woman in your life?' or 'Is it your wife's birthday tomorrow?'. Oh, and anniversary cards, Mothering Sunday cards, and, in February, Valentine's Day cards, will go down a storm, I'm sure.

Candygirl - please stop worrying; you have to put yourself first and take a breath to recharge.

Well, the jerk-flavoured potato peelings (cooked, of course, in Romski!) are delicious. I'm going to make them every time I have peelings. DH loved them because I was quite liberal with the jerk seasoning and they are hot, hot, hot!

Anyway, time to put the kettle on.

    See you all later.

After the intellectual discussion on the Large Hadron Collider yesterday, I can see today's thread turning into a discussion on whisky! :rotfl: I'm not familiar with Tomatin or Cardhu, but I can happily drink Dalwhinnie, no problem!

Redruby - slow down, you're meant to be recovering woman! My friends used to make grape and folly wine, think folly is the leafy stuff on the vine? Anyway it was really nice, wine grapes are quite tart I think?

Kids have now started asking him why he doesn't do any chores and they do - think they are starting to get through to him!

Had to come on here. Need everyone of you to say a prayer.
My DH was rushed into Hosp at 2.50. He's had a stroke. I have phoned DD1 and called around to DD2 as she was sent home from work ill and is going to Drs at 5pm.

I have to just wait for a call from the hosp, I wanted to go with him but he became agitated as he wanted no fuss, and the Paramedics said best to stay at home. Wish I had insisted now. I don't know what to do, drive there anyway and miss the call or sit it out.

The silence here is a silence I've never experianced before.

His dinner is cooked and ready for him.

Sorry I have not read the thread but will do as it will keep my busy, might start some cleaning and hope the time passes quickly.
  • Afternoon all

PenPin - I wish I could come and work for you because I KNOW you're nice! It does sound as if she is taking advantage especially as she probably knew you would be at the hospital yesterday - if you didn't need 2.5 hours of cleaning then you wouldn't be organising and paying for it. I would definitely keep a record of the hours she owes you and, like Floss says, perhaps she can come back to do the work that should have been done yesterday. The last thing you want to do is become angrier and angrier about it and YOUR needs come first. It makes me angry just thinking about it.

    (((Hugs))) to Jo.
