Calling you at work without permission is against OFT guidance.

Hi guys, Ive been reading the last 26 pages for days... Im at page 18 so far and intend to read the whole lot. Just thought Id come on and say that after reading here and receiving a letter from Mck Hall for a debt atleast 6/7 years old - im in Scotland - I sent a statute barred email off to them today.

I got a reply within hours which I shall post below.

    Ms R****

I am in receipt of your below email, the contents of which I have noted.

Please accept this email as confirmation that your account has now been closed and returned to our clients for further consideration.

We have made this decision as we now accept the account to be statute barred and therefore protected under the Limitations Act 1980.

Mackenzie Hall shall act no further on this matter and for any undue stress or inconvenience caused I duly apologise, this was never our intention.

    Regards

    R** S**ds
    Compliance Manager

He didnt even get the limitations act correct as Im protected under the 1973 act, but never mind.

    Seems like a result?

If I get anymore letters I will send one reminding them they are now harrassing me...

Fingers crossed this is the end. Hope this helps someone else out there!

Thanks for all the advice on here, I wouldnt have known where to start without it! :T

    Hi
i have just received a letter off these people saying they have been provided with my address as being possible residential details for their subject...
If i am not the person named could i phone them and let them know
    Or e mail them
And the e mail is a strange one i can tell you
Do you think i should keep this letter??
I am certainly not phoning them!

    Hi Kathy
If its not addressed to you and its the first letter from them then I would just ignore it.
If more letters come mark them as returned to sender.
If still more come then you could write to them to say that the person they are looking for does not live there - but I would be very cautios about giving out your email or real name to them.
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"

Safest policy may be to ignore it.

There's nothing they can do to you.
  • are you sure ,the letter looks and sounds nasty , i dont want anyone turning up at my door

MH don't do home visits - they'll eventually go away and chase someone else for that debt (if they're not doing so already)
