Couldnt agree more with what else the money could have been spent on much more usefully at the least.

An article in the Guardian a couple of days back made the point that if everything does go "belly up" with this experiment that the scientists have made the point that we may not realise for about 4 years. Dont know how they've worked out that that is the likely timespan. All this stuff goes rather over my (non-technical) head. Obviously - I am interested in just what they might find out - if anything! as I have a bit of an "experimental" attitude to life myself - but there are limits to curiosity that I dont think it worth going beyond and I am uncomfortably aware that the Mayans predicted SOMETHING very drastic for us all thousands of years ago - at 21 December 2012! Errrr...what? Hopefully they got it wrong. On the other hand - maybe they got it right - but the something drastic is a major change for the better - in which case, it would be a case of "yay! bring on the champagne".

It just concerns me that one species on the planet (ie us) seems to think it has the right to do what the heck it likes - totally regardless of everything else we are sharing this planet with. We have a beautiful planet here (with its mountains and grass and oceans and rivers etc etc - where we could have had some dead lump of rock it was difficult to survive on - but we have been given a multitude of resources and beauty to live with) - and should be regarding ourselves as caretakers of it - not the attitude of "kid in a sweetshop - what can I grab next - its all here for our taking" - which seems to be the attitude of much of the human race unfortunately.

I guess the tune of "Its my party and I'll cry if I want to" comes to mind - but adapted to "Its my planet - and I'll cry if I want to".

I'm pretty sure it was Koestler (Arthur) who said we were a flawed species, the only species stupid enough to destroy itself (something along those lines....)

    Hello everyone,

just popping in to say: Happy Birthday to Penny Pincher :bdaycake:
Happy Anniversary to Sunnyday & OH
Congratulations to Troo on the job situation! :j
And lots of love to twink :) *hugs*

Busy day at work today - shouldn't really complain, as it passed the time really well, but I was so glad when it was home time! Tea was HM mini pizzas (but I did buy the bases :o ) which were really tasty. The kettle is about to go on, and I'll have to have a look and see if there is anything nice lurking in the back of the cupboard though I have a feeling we're out of biscuits

Need to get going sorting out the house - want to move things between the rooms, and am having a mega clearout, so that's most likely the weekend planned. Not going to do a lot tonight after I load the dishwasher as I'm tired and need a break :p

Many *hugs* to all, please take or leave as you please...

  • Since my last post we have learned DH's passport lost in post having sent for a visa. Huge problems and reporting, getting replacement etc etc. He is hyperventilating. Good news is that DS phoned tonight to say he and partner engaged!!!!!!!!!!! They said they were never going to marry and never have kids. Maybe GB will have some more grandchildren yet!!!!!! Anyway, no problem with DS and partner commitment as they were but so glad to hear the news and no doubt an Ireland wedding sometime in the offing.

    Love and hugs to all

    And Einstein said

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe"

So what does that say about the human race.

    Morning all
    Happy Birthday to PP.
Come on Granny B, fess up you've been in the attic.
On the subject of nosy MIL's, anyone opening any of my bedroom drawer would need nerves of steel!!!

I now have some beef casseroles in the freezer along with the apple crumbles, I also bought BIL a pair of oven gloves, I could imagine him putting a crumble in the oven & then when it was cooked, not being able to get it out.
The plumber has finally got the water supply & toilet sorted in BIL's new house, so it looks like BIL really might finally be able to move out.
Tonight I'm making batches of Bolognese sauce, lasagne & yet more apple crumbles. The washing line is full as it is supposed to be bright & breezy today.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

Was off to bed but can't resist.....

*Floss picks up collection hat from where rmac threw it behind washing basket, takes out LW's half packet of mints, puts in 3 Euro and a Swiss franc and passes it back to WAT*

Can't help thinking that the posts got awfully deep and intelligent.....could do with DS1 being here to help me add something about Schrödinger & his cat ;)
