The make and model of the vehicle make no difference at all.
The make and model would provide useful background information.
Some marques are known to be reticent about warranty payments on certain faults. I think that Porsche upset a lot of customers on a brake disc issue once.

If you purchase a high performance version of a vehicle then you have to accept that if you use that performance then you cannot expect the same service life as from a lesser model. I used to get through gearboxes at the rate of one every 24 months (which was about 2 years) when I tuned up an engine.

If you decide to go to a media outlet with your story then you'll have to go public about the brand then.

If you've used that performance for the last 2 years and it's been worth it then I'd suggest simply sourcing a replacment box and fixing it and regarding it as the cost of performance.

Because it had been modified with increased torque despite the fact this modification had taken place at their own performance centre before being released for sale.
I'd suggest reading the small print regarding the modifications then. You might well find that the manufacturer didn't provide the same level of warranty. Even though they provided the upgrade, it was done at your risk.

I'd expect this to be the case for certain performance upgrades - the amount of testing that the standard parts go through is staggering, but with high performance there's no way they could justify the testing unless you were prepared to pay 10 times extra.

That several people have had the same problem and that they have told you that they won't be paying for it suggests this might be the case. However, I've seen people manage a partial warranty payment by contacting Honest John who writes for the Telegraph Motoring section.

If it really all bothers you that much the car is an astra. So what asvice can you give as clearly it is such a hassle not knowing what the model/make is.

I asked for help. I dinn't want to state the make/model for reasons already mentioned however apparently the help is all one sided and I am in the wrong for doing this! I didn't come on here to be flamed and attacked I simply asked questions! A broken gearbox quite simply is that! (broken) it doesn't matter if the gearbox is off an astra or a TR7 (sorry pullip) I would have kept this thread updated with any info we had recieved.

I can almost guarentee that no one on this forum has the same car as there was only ever 4 made!
    That's actually very useful information.
So it'll be an Astra VXR special edition with a performance hike.

Spoke to the guys at the vauxhall performance centre today, guy was really helpful. I wanted to know about the warranty issue. I was told that the VXR centre log all the remaps they do and inform Vauxhall, so you engine warranty is essentially invalid, but that the VXR centre will cover the engine for any damage caused BY the remap.

What do you guys reckon just a bit worried as I like my warranty?

Having been stung too many time before I can just see that if any problems did occur that Vauxhall would blame the remap and the VXR centre would try to deny it was there remap at fault.

I really was hoping that the VXR centres work would be like that of prodrive for subaru. ie you keep your warranty valid, its a shame thats not the case.

Excuse my ignorance over the bold highlighted above, but how was the upgrade done at my risk when the car was purchased with the upgrade already done? The car was brand new and purchased as a limited edition. OH has done no modifications to the car other than having the rest of the interior retrimmed in blue alcantara to match the front seats. Surely if the level of warranty was not as standard this should have been discussed before purchased? as far as we were aware the warranty was standard.

Did you buy it from Thurlby Motors?
I'd have thought what with it being a flagship model then negative publicity would be high on their list of concerns.

aha, found this on Google cache

But within the entire run of the 100 cars produced by the BTCC team this really was a one off Being that it had the original Leather Heated seats & Door inserts from the White press car that went on to feature on Fifth Gear with Vicky Butler Henderson.

The Car stood at an amazing deal as the Deal that Triple Eight Struck up with Thurlby Motors was that in order to buy a 100 cars in order to obtain the deal that they would then go on to Place a further £5,000 of Equipment on the car taking it to an overall "would be" total of £24,000.00

  • I've had a quick google and not much information on it. Is it based on the coupe or the hatchback? 200PS petrol engine?

Its a sport hatch diesel engine :) part of the T8 which was a run of 100 but only 99 as there was no 13. they then made 4 of them even more of a limited edition which was named the stealth

Yes, my google searching has caught up now.

    http://astraownersnetwork.com/888.html

You're in a specialist niche with a high performance version of a car. What happens next is a combination of what your warranty says and what their attitude to publicity is. They might well say "it's a specialist version, you just have to accept that bits break if you drive it hard".
