I know nothing about that particular car.

I suppose the real questions is who upgraded engine?
    Was the gearbox upgraded?
Did Vauxhall have anything to do with these special editions?
What is the reasonable expectation of the durability of this engine and gearbox combination?
Who is the manufacturer vauxhall or the specialist builder?
Has the car been raced or taken on track days?

If you husband is involved with Astra owners club I imagine he is better placed than most on here to answer these questions. I imagine if you are getting no joy you will have to resort to legal action.

Your questions are spot on and have saved me posting them.

I'm struggling to find out if the engine is uprated, the gearbox is standard. It seems to say that it is a standard engine from the coupe, but then on other websites it mentions the ability to do a remap to 160/200BHP on the fly.

    Ok questions and answers:
Triple eight racing (also vxr performance centre) upgraded the engine before sale to the public. This I believe was the reason it became a limited edition. (these are also the performance people who run the british touring cars)
The gearbox I believe is standard and can cope with over the amount of power that the car has after being upgraded.
Vauxhall I am unsure of it they have any part of it however they must have given some kind of permission to do so? my OH would be better to answer that one however he is at work so I can't ask him.
durabulity - erm sorry I can't answer that one personally however OH will know and again he is at work
Manufacturer is Vauxhall. T8 racing upgraded bits on it to make it a special edition.
No the car has never been raced or taken on track days.

    :)

Thanks. As far as I know the gearbox is standard, however the engine is tuned as mentioned in the first post. OH has not done any modifications on this car other than having the interior retrimmed.

this is basically what was posted on AON. However the cars were put on sale before the engine upgrade.
The Thurlby 888 has taken an upgrade and a very limited run of 4 off have been made.

    The changes (cosmetic)
All four are black and have the following extra's:
    • Rear Brake upgrade
    • Carbon V-Grille, Door Mirror Covers, Hatch Handle, Bumper Inserts, Door Rub Strips, Interior Door strips, Interior Dash strip
    • Crosshatch front grilles
    • The inside now sports the recaro's in the front which have prompted a full retrim in Blue Alcantara and Black Leather.
    I do :D

Vauxhall may or may not of given their permission or rather endorsed this special edition.

From what I understand, Thurlbys purchased 100 cars and then commissioned Triple Eight to do the work. This is the nub of the matter. If Thurlbys got approval (i.e. they agreed the specs with Vx prior to the mods and then someone from their homologation dept. tested a car afterwards) then it will be covered, but if they just went ahead and did it off of their own backs then Vx will duck out (rightly so) of it, as the uprated engine will provide too much power and torque for the gearbox.

You say the warranty is with Vauxhall, doew the warranty book have this particular model listed i.e. Triple Eight 888 St8alth or does it just say 1.9CDTi, i.e. it is a standard warranty book.

I have a feeling that Vx didn't approve the mods and therefore the warranty falls back to the supplying dealer. Thurlbys have probably contacted Vx, who have said, no, you changed the specs you pay for the repair. Thurlbys have then gone to Triple Eight, who have also said, no, we just did the work you asked us to do, it is a standard gearbox, we didn't touch it, you pay for the repair or sort it out with Vx.

Questions you have to ask Thurlbys, is it a Vx approved mod and is the standard warranty still in place or has it been voided by these changes. If not approved, there is a separate ongoing issue for further warranty. As for your immediate problem, your contract is with Thurlbys, they are liable (Vx may be jointly liable) and don't let them try and fob you of with it is down to Vx.

Ask them what has happened so far (i.e. what have they done to try and sort it), what are they doing now and when will it be repaired in a timely manner with an absolute latest deadline. If they're vague, just keep repeating the question explaining that the answer is not acceptable and make sure you speak to the service manager.

At the end of the day, if it remains unsorted, it will be a trip to the small claims court (providing the repair isn't more than £5K).

Thanks that is really helpful. I will let OH see it when he comes home from work.
Thanks to everyone else for the responses. Appreciated.

Breat post Road Hog. Think that about sums up the situation.

I can see this becoming a game of pass the parcel and who will be left holding the baby when the music stops. Still to be decided but Vx will probably not be that party.

Think you have your work cut out here OP, hope your servicing etc is all up to date or they might try wriggling on that.

One other question (or thought) does it come with anything more than a 1 year warranty? If so it might be a real uphill struggle as the Vx warranty is possible voided by the upgrades!!

Yep all upto date .. they called OH this morning to ask if it had been serviced, apparently the service book isn't in the car where it should be which means the garage previously who had it still have the service book! (was only last serviced 4 weeks ago)

it comes with a 3 year/60,000 miles warranty. However T8 racing claim they only do a 1 year warranty on their work .... pass the parcel has already started!
    Thanks

...it comes with a 3 year/60,000 miles warranty.

The question is who gives it this warranty? Better start digging out those contracts etc.
