No, because I don't really agree with any of your points.

If there is no webcam or optical drive, you should mention it as some people may assume that all modern laptops have a webcam and DVD drive.

Do you honestly think that you were the first to spot those machines? I had already linked to the Samsung in post #783 and omitted the others because I don't think that they represent particularly good value for money. It was so long ago that the Asus X5DIJ was available for £264 delivered. Dual core Celeron, 250GB HDD, 1.3MP webcam....

So I couldn't in good conscience recommend the Toshiba machine at the same price.
Also you need to think about that by the time that people have asked questions, the laptop could be sold to someone who knows exactly what they want. They don't need your link at all.

People already know about the website now, they just need help with their choices.

So if there are any obvious caveats, I think it is better to include them.

I didn't post links to them because I don't think they represent

Well at the end of the day we all just give our opinions on here and I'm sure that as you are not a moderator of this forum and nobody from what I can see elected you as the only voice worth listening to on here, we'll agree to differ. If I think something is worth linking to I will continue to do so whether you think it's worth it or not.

My opinion on laptops or any other computer related subject is no more valuable or less valuable than yours and I don't pretend otherwise. I will not be cyber bullied by you simply because you have set yourself up as the font of all knowledge on this forum.

Now, let's get back to finding and discussing bargains instead of !!!!!ing about the relative merits of each other's posts, ok.

Anybody got there MSI CR610 dual core M300 delivered today , mine is coming tomorrow but was wondering if anyone who has got there's could give us there impressions so far ...

Yes I had mine arrive today and I must say I am impressed with it. Feels solid and keys feel good. I am just getting used to the keyboard as it has the extra numbers on the right hand side.

The Laptop itself seems a good speed for the money the only thing I would say about it is that it has the bright led by the mouse buttons which I think will become annoying and one other thing is the mouse button themselves feel very plastic and cheap .... Thats really picky ... It does not bother me so much but I can see why people may say that..... very good overall and so far tho!!:j

Indeed. It's good that we are free to disagree. In the end, the members benefit from reasoned argument.
For instance, they may not have noticed that the Toshiba had no webcam or the MSI no DVD drive if I hadn't mentioned it.
But it would save me having to do it, if you did it. :)

Whilst it is possible to purchase a webcam and microphone, it is a rather ungainly solution, especially when on the move. For the £20 it may cost, you could have purchased an altogether better machine and eliminate the need to carry around the extra peripherals.
For the people who have no need for a webcam and a speedy processor it may be entirely adequate.

The lack of a optical drive in the MSI X610 is clearly a more serious omission. To suggest that someone can buy an external drive after the fact is just silly. That together with the AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 Processor
(1.60GHz, 512KB L2, 65nm, 1600MHz HyperTransport) with a CPU Benchmark score of 387 just adds to the irresponsibilty of your 'recommendation'. Compare that score to the inexpensive Celeron Dual-Core T3100 with a score of 1269, contained in the cheapest average laptop these days.
Even the single core Celeron 900 CPU in the Toshiba you recommended has a score of 765.

The fact is that you probably didn't notice any of these omissions when you posted, so the last person people should be asking for advice on buying laptops is you....in my opinion.

This is finding and discussing bargains. If you can't stand the heat....
  • 79 Toshiba L450s on argos clearances now for £294 - how can they have so many of one model?!?!

Anyway it has dual T3100 processor, 2gb ram, 250gb hdd, no mention of hdmi or webcam.

I think it's incorrectly labelled as having 4500MHD graphics, so definitely no HDMI output. You are also correct about there being no webcam and microphone.
Looks like the Toshiba Satellite L450-18D

I didn't want to turn this into a personal slanging match but Ok, I see that you in your particular patronizing, egoistical, pedantic way want to affirm your self-appointed position as King of the forum so you can no doubt sit back with a smug grin of self-satisfaction after foisting your opinions on yet another non-techie person. You are a typical internet cyber bully of the worst kind who hides behind smugness and self-righteousness and your obvious belief that you are always right and everyone else is always wrong.

You have been picked up on your petulant attitude towards posters on here before and that endorses my (and no doubt others) views on you. The fact that you often talk down to people, feel the need to correct and sit in judgement of others who may express different opinions also confirms you as being someone who seems really quite arrogant.

Anyway, I'm not going to get drawn any further by you. I will continue to post on here whether you like it or not. I am not interested in your opinions on my posts and I don't really care whether you agree with the information they contain or not. If you feel the need to follow my every post on here then feel free but again that would kind of confirm to me and others that I have summed you up quite accurately.

Petulant, arrogant.... that seems an accurate description of your actions here. Your post doesn't contain a single technical point.
You are just having a 'hissy fit' because I have shown that you are recommending laptops without due diligence.

You want the glory without putting in the work. Believe me, I can link to cheaper laptops, but I'm not interesting in linking to any old rubbish.

Post your rubbish if you wish, but hopefully no one will take any notice of your careless posts.

If you don't want it to turn into a slanging match, keep it technical. Show everyone that your recommendations have merit.

Maybe you need to review the thread's title before you proceed: Sub-£350 powerful laptops.. Ring a bell?

An Athlon NEO 64 processor does not fit the bill. Silly Billy.

Perhaps you too should be reminded that posting off-topic has exactly the same effect. Effectively, trolling.

Yours is an unintelligent and short sighted comment. It's nothing to do with 'better than you', and more to do with helping people who don't understand much about technology to gain some understanding and in doing so, avail themselves of a suitable laptop.

Listing a Netbook as a laptop without any reference is irresponsible. Where is the money saving angle on that? Fine if someone was looking for a large Netbook, but most people are not. There are looking for a laptop, under £350.
Anyone viewing the thread and clicking through to the link would be expecting that they are viewing a powerful laptop. Not everyone is clued up about processors and many will assume that all laptops have an optical drive.

So my suggestion is simply to highlight these things when making recommendations.

Knarf44 took great offence to my suggestion, to the point of hysteria.

My suggestion to you is that if you want so badly to keep it on topic, keep it on topic.

Don't join in with frankly stupid, troll like comments.

It's a good thing if they have a large quantities of a laptop, probably means they are ex display or returns rather being properply refurbed which is probably the case if they have only a couple of laptops of a particular make.
