The i3 has a score of 2550. So theoretically the i5 is 30% faster.
But the i3 laptop has more memory and has a bigger disk. I think the i3 will be good enough for presentations and facebook.
I strongly recommend an extended warranty of 3 years. e.g.

EDIT: the red one is still available (£322 for i3-2310M with 4GB memory and 500GB disk et al)
Many thanks for your help, went to order and it is out of stock in Plymouth where I live and not available for home delivery. Popped into the shop and they are getting a big delivery tomorrow so am hoping to get it online then.0 -

I used a business sites instructions how to make your laptop go faster and it made only a slight bit of difference. My laptop was a bad apple i think from the start to be honest and i certainly wasn't going to waste the money on yet another battery for it.
I ended up buying a Samsung last night which had good reviews and had all that i needed it for.0 -
Hi people,
Could I ask for opinions on which of the following ACER laptop to go for?

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspire-5336-15-6-laptop-black-10945080-pdt.html
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/acer-aspire-5552-15-6-laptop-black-10945093-pdt.html
From what I have read these would be a better choice than this yes?

Or is there a better choice / deal elsewhere? (Preferably for under £300.)
Many thanks in advance!

I have just bought this laptop from Argos's eBay outlet - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOSHIBA-C660-INTEL-250GB-15-6IN-LAPTOP-REFURB-/350476097279?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item519a00d6ff - and despite being tagged 'refurbished' it appears to be brand new (it arrived in shrinkwrap and original sealed Toshiba box, is very shiny, etc). I am guessing that Toshiba overmanufactured/Argos overstocked or something, so they are selling them marked as "refurb" so as not to devalue the Toshiba brand by selling new laptops too cheap. I think other people on this thread have mentioned this about Argos's Toshiba laptops on eBay seeming to be brand new, but it's probably worth re-stating it as if they are new that is quite a bargain.0

Look out for ex-display units or ask how many they have left and if they say 1 you know your onto a winner as its prob end of line kit.
Good luck
What a strange post.0 -

You'll need some more RAM for that machine.

First of all, I wouldn't recommend a PC World Ex-Display unit. It would have been on constant charge for weeks and picked at by inexperienced users.
Secondly, your statement of being on to a winner if they have only one is strange at best.0 -
Hate to disagree but I don't think they are, the 2nd gen i5 in the second is significantly better (though both will serve the posters needs)
EDIT: Just looked them up on CPU Benchmark and the AMD Phenom II X4 N930 scores 2447, the i5-2410M scores 3356. That's a significant difference IMO
Thanks for clarification I couldn't search the N930 as an X4 and looked in the range N925/N940 3456/3684.
A bit naughty that either from AMD or in the seller quoting it as an X4.
Interestingly anyone know how these speed test rank are they a straight numerical speed improvement or is it logarithmic for instance i.e. to double the speed you actually have to have a 10X increase in the numeric measurement? What impact does the speed in GHz make?
I have a Pentium P4 3.0Ghz in this PC with a score of 491, which in day to day use, multi window it is as quick as as a laptop with a ranking of 3600?
Does laptop v. desktop make a difference with the same CPU?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
