Eeek... Its not easy this time of year. As long as you don't get too chilly
  • Have so far managed not to have the central heating on yet. Just a gas fire for a couple of 2 hr blasts to try and dry the washing which is hanging limply on the close horse!
This hasn't been easy as we live in Scotland, and its getting COLD here.
OH and me have been using the 'layers' method of keeping warm, layers of clothing, throws when watching TV, blankets on the bed.

Everyone I've spoken to is the same...scared to put the heating on because they're afraid of the gas/electricity prices.
  • Well OH didn't complain about the cold today so the storage heater isn't goin on for a while yet..... The little heater in DS's room has been switched off all day (not a storage heater so will eat the expensive electricity!) and it's still 17degrees, so I'll leave that off til I go to bed and see how cold it get.

I've just found a fleecy blanket that came in a bundle of sheets etc when DS was born, its nice and big and warm.... and lilac! Not really a DS colour :)

"Luckily" our boiler broke down in the spring and it took me a while to get round to fixing it, which made us realise that we could manage without hot water for the summer so even once it was fixed it stayed off till a couple of weeks ago. Used a pot on the cooker to heat water for dishes etc. and it wasn't too difficult.

This meant that we know have a healthy balance paid to EON so don't feel so concerned about using heating. Although still use it less than last year.

Been really nippy the last few nights, and I'm having definite problems getting up in the morning. Annoyingly, I've always felt the cold (I have a friend who still has windows open this time of year! Wish I could borrow her metabolism for a bit! :rotfl: ), so once November is in, the heating is going to have to start going on, if only so I can persuade myself out of bed before I risk being late for work! I have just ordered myself a hand tanned sheepskin rug from fellow forum dweller IceWytch, which will be taking the sting out of the laminate flooring in my bedroom just as soon as the postie gets it here, so that should help things! :rotfl:

I also need to get my curtains sorted - I had double glazing installed this year, and as the curtain track in my living room was screwed to the old wooden frames it didn't survive the switch. I'm not going to go putting holes in my lovely new UPVC windows, so I have to get a curtain pole made specially to fit, as it's a bay window. Fortunately a friend of mine had to do this recently too, so I have a good contact for a metal pole. :)

Still, I'm glad to have made it to November heating free! :D

Our heating's been on & off for a week or so after we both came down with colds (mine 6 days, OH's 24 hours ) but it was off from last Saturday to Wednesday as we were away (god it was cold when we got back Wednesday night!)

Will also be off today until Sunday (if I can stand it - I'm back tomorrow nite and I'm ALWAYS cold, OH back Sunday nite). :j

Well, went to put the heating on on Saturday (it was only about 7 degrees in the living room! ) and discovered my circulation pump is shot, so no heating for me for a few more days yet! Got my tame builder on the job, though, so should be sorted soon. :)

Also finally getting my curtain poles sorted out, which will help matters!

Annoyingly, the Scottish part of me is !!!!-a-hoop at this turn of events - more savings!

  • Had to put the heater on Fri night as OH was at home with DS Sat day time.... but its warmed up again a bit now (neighbours must have cranked their heating up!) so ours is back off again! Haven't had to put DSs heater on either since the weekend! Good times.... or should I say warm times :)

Heating was off last night. Its raining outside and think it drags the temp down so the heating has been off until about an hour ago. After a sherry too much the other night I went to bed and left the heater on in the kitchen all night! Grrrrr!
