It's actually really mild just now - even though in the Highlands.

We have a wood burner & free wood - so it doesn't cost anything to run apart from the sawing up of the wood. So this year we don't have to worry about heating bills - thankfully.
  • ok, thought id revive this. I was tonight contemplating putting the heat on, but opted for a sweatshirt and wooly socks and a draft excluder. I am loath to turn heating on when its still sunny. Im London, How about everyone else
  • Not just yet, although I think it may be this week...

I'm up north in the Granite city in the Highlands....

All my friends have the heating on right now - not me :)

Bills will cost a fortune later on so why have it on now? I mean it's not THAT cold....

It's 19c in the lounge right now. It gets upto to 22c if the sun comes out in the day...

I just figure more layers and a camp blanket with a hole in the middle :)

Im in Belfast - so cold wet and indy. No heating on yet though. to be honest its not bad - its chilli in themorning but it just gets me moving faster - and can get a little in the evening past 9, but a jumper helps. Its its really cold (was c ouple of times last week) I close the front room doors and put the electric fire on for 10 minutes.

That takes the chill off - and in real terms isnt that expensive. Out heating is Oil fired which is VERY expensive - and turning it on heats the whole 4 bed house (which is forces accommodation and not well insulated) so the 20p or so to take the chill of is much cheaper.

Once the temp drops down to 5 or 6 Deg well probably put it on.

To be honest though - were doing really well. We have a monthly budget for heating oil (agreed with CCCS) and havnt stopped paying in over the summer (Oil is COD). We have about half a tank left (which is maybe 2 to 3 months worth when heating is on), but it costs around £600 to fill the tank. Luckily our "Oil account" is in credit by £800 as of 1 November. :)
  • Its getting very cold here in WSM but i will not put heating on yet

  • I do have the heating on, up here in the hills of North East England. We have storage heaters, on economy 7, we have two switched on, on the lowest setting just to take the chill off and deal with the damp air a bit.

I'm still sat here at my computer fully clothed, with a huge dressing gown on over the top and a two pairs of fluffy socks......!

I'm resisting turning up the heating for another couple of weeks or until the snow, whichever comes first!
  • Only once to dry some clothes when it was raining...

I did put the heating on a few weeks back, just to check everything was working ok O:) Not needed it since as its been so mild.
I'm trying not to have to put the central heating on too much this winter as the cost of gas is unbelievable. I'm looking at buying some sort of heater for the front room, anyone have any ideas which is most economical? Halogen, Oil-Filled Rad, etc? We used to have a gas fire in the front room which was excellent but the landlord took it out 2 winters ago. Not worried about having heat in the other rooms
