We're getting double glazing in next week. Don't have it at the moment (only moved here 3 months ago), and the windows aresingle glazed (and rotten window frames) and i'd forgotten how good double glazing is when you don't have it!
Oooh, what a shock to go back to single Jackie, I hope it isn't too cold while they're putting them in and that they get them on QUICKLY! Do a lot of this :jwhile you're waiting!

I'm going out, and leaving dh to freeze it out on his own. They said it'll take 3 days though!
When we got double glazing in the old house, it was December and I was 9 months pregnant, so had my own built in central heating.0 -

...at a girl Jackie!Well, they are always telling us how these things don't affect them so you really shouldn't feel guilty!

I'm getting a bit worried about myself on the ocd front here... First thing I do in the morning is check how the poll is going and read the latest posts... However, I have picked up some good tips (like the snuggly throws from asda) and it's remarkable how reading through strengthens my resolve to keep the heating off. Yes, I'm still holding out and I have you lot to thank for that.
What I would like to know is... are we going to restart the poll sometime? I'm sure that some of the voters who said theirs was off will, by now, have put it on. Can we have another snapshot now we've reached October?
Just a thought.
Cheers

Well, it's October 1st and it still isn't on. Maybe we should all put £1 in a jar for every extra day we survive without it, to go towards our eventual heating costs. The sun is shining here, so that will hopefully help maintain the indoor temperatures a little. For those of us trying to hang on a little longer, don't forget to start the day dressed really warmly. This will prevent you chilling down when it will be more difficult to build up body heat again later by putting on an extra sweater. And keep moving around at regular intervals too to help keep your circulation going.0

Mine still isnt on either. I was tempted yesterday but put a big jumper on, a blanket over me, and persuaded the cats to lay on me... toastie! lol

Mum's put ours on, so disappointed, I woke up too hot (I've already got my winter quilt on) and full of headache. Might turn it off in my room againNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

My 'no heating til October challenge' is now at an end :j :j
Late last night I put the timer back on so this morning it was on for an hour and it will be on for 3 hours this evening. I'd set the thermostat at 21 (which I think is the optimum setting) but reduced it by one as I felt too hot and that was after an hour too - me who loves tropical temperatures!:rotfl::eek:
Funnily enough, I thought the atmosphere was a tad dry once the heating was on so I'll fill my glass bowls with water and put them back on the radiators from tonight.
Thanks for this challenge guys (and to Eon for raising the gas/leccy prices  ). I wouldn't have seen it through otherwise :AThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Ours is still off and i'm wondering if we can get to November now, I was tempted to put it on when we had visitors, but I lit a candle and hoped it at least made it look cosy
I am cold tonight though, which is the first evening so i'm sat here with a hot water bottle and blanket.
OH told me tonight his mate has his thermostat set at 14 degrees for the winter every year, not just because of the price increases...don't think I could cope it that low.0 -
Today was really chilly here in West London. Sunny but with a really icy wind, and I was out and about feeling quite cold. Back at home it's not bad at all. I'm wearing a fleece over a t-shirt and feel quite warm and comfy.
I have to get out my real winter woollies though for going out of the house, as I think they will be needed soon.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
