Have you put the heating on yet?

gillycat - you do get used to being with/without ch quite quickly. I lived in a flat with barely any heating and very drafty windows and I hated coming back to my parents as the house was always so hot and stuffy. Now I feel the cold a lot (but still find my parents too hot!), so I do like my layers of clothes and a bit of heat (hot water bottle/sun in the window), but I still use the heating as little as possible.

I tried to put the heating on Monday night for the first time. Didnt work so as I have a maintanence contract I called them out. Apparently they say its sludge which is the only thing I have to pay for
£750.
S*d me, wish I hadnt bothered!Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
I don't know what's wrong with all you people. It may be wet but it really isn't that cold. Still have summer duvet on and window open. Although my attitude may have something to do with having grown up without ch in a house where you got ice on the inside of the windows!
Toughen up!
Oh my Gd woman -I am sitting with a shirt /vest/jumper and a padded anorak on and I am still freezing. I would be ok if I could run anround and do the housework but I am trying to sit at my computer and do some work.I hate these threads cos I just get annoyed with people in the south with sun etc while here in scotland -IT IS COLD.0 -

Sludge has built up as the heating hasn't been on I guess. Its like A/Con in cars - its recommended you run it for a few minutes each week regardless of the temperature.
Ours has been left on at 16C at the programmed times all year and once a week i do 10 min on to ensure the water circulates.0 -

Don't know where you live but it is decidedly chilly late evenings and early mornings in the Penines. I was brought up with out central heating, and lived the first few years of married life without it, but it doesn't change the fact that I am wearing extra layers on an evening, going to bed with the hot water bottle, and using the open fire - soon to be converted to a wood burning stove- several evenings. Even the dog is sleeping in his basket rather than in the cooler part of the house, and he is acting on animal instinct not being aware of the global oil price.ADT0 -
I had the electric fire on for 15 mins the other week.

If Scottish Power up your Direct Debit on the Capped billing and you calculate that they are way over call them!!! I have done it twice in the last year and they reduced it again, once they even reduced it to less than it was before!!!! That way you get the interest on your money (if you keep it in the right account) they don't! I think they rely on customers not checking and just paying up.0

My advice would be to stand up, and do some star jumps:j :j , or run up and the stairs a few times, as my mother used to make me do.
Don't worry, I'm down south and its drizzling, and yesterday, very windy!DMP Mutal Support thread No 237
