Doesn't matter how much I wrap up, if my head is cold, I still feel cold...

My 3 year old son is a naturist - I have to dress him on the stairs seconds before we go out because if I do it any earlier even 5 minutes earlier he'll streak past me - he just does not do clothes. As soon as we get back from being out he is stripping - its a real struggle sometimes if I am in and out the house.0

I have a stupid question.
We have a gas fire in the front room fireplace. Is it cheaper to light this than have the central heating on ? My logic says it is, as instead of heating the whole house we are snuggled up in one room ?
We are all total hot water bottle addicts and all fight over whose room the dog will be sleeping in as he is like a giant hot water bottle anyway !DC.

Hi Different Corner,
I'd like to know the answer to that one too - I think someone once told me that because you are burning 'neat gas' its more expensive - but it does look nice though - I'll have it on when I get up and do the dreaded 2am feeds - bring it on !!!!!0 -

I'm no expert, but I remember reading in a magazine last winter that it's about even as far as gas usage goes.So if you run your gas and your gas fire at the same time it'll cost you double than just running the heating alone as they use roughly the same.0 -
Thanks People !
I have a nightmare combi boiler that is on it's last legs, just hoping it sees us through the winter, can't afford to replace it until next spring.DC.

We have a coal fire in the study which we've just started using, it makes the study really snug and the kitchen and dining room that come off it bearable! It might just be me but I love it when the house is really cold and I have to snug up to keep warm. But then I don't like summer!
When I get up in the morning (6am) it's freezing in my room, so I light an incense stick which seems to warm the room up. It might just be the smell but it helps!0 -
I have recently turned on the central heating as it's the only way I can get our towels dry from one day to the next. But it's only on for 1hr in the morning and all the radiators (except the towel rail) are off.
We have bought a small electric convection heater and if it is too cold (with a blanket) we put that on and just heat the living room! I reckon we should be OK with that set-up for most of the winter :-)0
