We had to put a night storage heater on low a couple of days ago. We were hell bent on holding out at least until October, but it gets quite chilly morning and night. Not so bad when you're active, but on relaxing in the evening I need a little warmth. Apart from that we'll leave everything else off until we're desperate - too darn dear not to!
We bought 2 of the cuddly type throws from Lidl just before Christmas, what a blessing they'll be this winter ....and every other! Keep warm all.

I'm holding out for 1st November,I managed this last year.It has been lovely and sunny here for the last couple of days, but it goes really chilly in the evenings ......and early mornings are not very warm either
I bought a couple of cardigans in Primark this morning, well one is more of a bolero really, which I am wearing now over a t-shirt and it is really warm and cosy...my hands are actually warm :j It was crazy in Primark, loads of women all buying warm cardies and jumpers :rotfl:
I change into my pj's and a fleecy dressing gown in the early evening and if I still feel a bit chilly,I have a few fleecy blankets which I bought last year from Primark to wrap around me.
I live on my own and fortunately,I don't feel the cold too much,so the longer I can hold out without heating, the better.I begrudge paying BG any more than I have to
Actually,I have just had to take the bolero off, because I was too warm :rotfl: so it is definitely going to come in handy when it really gets cold.0 -

We've got a programmable timer time similar to this http://www.bhl.co.uk/product/DANFOSS_TS715_SI_7DAY52DAY24HR_SCHNL
It's 'on' constantly, but as the settings are 19 degrees from 7.30am-10.30pm and 16 degrees the rest of the time it doesn't really kick in.
However, due to the wonderfuly wet summer we've had & the fact that I don't own a tumble dryer I have had to override the thermostat and put the heating on a few times to dry the washing.
I am worried about the underfloor heating in the conservatory kicking in during the winter as that seems to eat gas like it's going out of fashion!
To the people wondering if 10 electric units a day was a lot, I've just checked my last electric bill and realised that we use 30 units a day in our 2-bed ground floor flat  I guess the reason for this is because all of my cooking is done by electric??
Also becuase we get our electric from Good Energy we pay 16.43p/kWh & 5.74p/day fixed charge which means that our standing order is £56/month (although we are £62 in credit at the moment). I know that getting our electric from them is not MSEish, but their green energy is something I'm prepared to pay extra for. I just thank the good of central heating that ours is mains gas

No heating on here and I don't expect to put it on for quite a while yet. It's been a couple of years now that I have kitted out myself for cold weather, and in particular I have a good stock of fleecy blankets, jackets, socks etc so that I can keep the heating down to a minimum.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

no heating on here, still have the back door open during the day and the bedroom window wide open at night. Hoping to hold out well into October.

We're holding off putting the heating on, the OH is starting to get a bit grumpy of an evening but we were brought a sheepskin throw as a wedding present so this has come out and across the back of the sofa, whenever she suggested putting on our gas fire or the heating I offer her a snuggle under the blanket instead, I cant belive she's still going for it!
Add to that we haven't got a catflap for our cats so the kitchen window is always open and it means we can feel the cold sometimes, but we're trying dead hard not to use it and have set a target of AFTER the middle of oct, maybe even longer!LBM - Jan 14th 2008 - and not a moment too soon!
Total debt £54,764 (ish) at LBM!!!

I just got in from a meal out with a friend and I have no heating on but my flat was sweltering, just thrown open all the windows. Am now convinced that the person downstairs has a nuclear reactor on overdrive. It wasn't this hot even with the height of our limited summer and with the sun belting in through the window every afternoon.
Thank you person downstairs - am looking forward to summer leccy bills in winter (almost)£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)
