Heating has not gone on yet and won't do until my hands start to turn blue!

Even in the worst cold last winter, the heating would only go on for one hour before we woke up and one hour early evening....with the price increases, it may be reduced even further this year!

Last year was also my first chilblain in over 30 years, expecting many more this year. Last year was also the first year where it was a straight choice between putting the heating on for extra time or buying food for the family..so I plumped for buying food and just put extra quilts downstairs (luckily my ex mum in law works for a charity shops and gets them for me for nothing) to keep us slightly snuggled when watching the television, although quilts and sitting at the PC don't quite work so well...hence the chilblain!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • Our heating hasn't gone on yet fortunately and I'm on a bit of a mission to see how long I can go without having to put it on, it's been off since April completely, it would be nice to make it well in to November!

It always surprises me how much sensitivity to cold varies from person to person. My hubby drives me mad when I say I'm freezing by replying "It's not cold"!

We were at a family party recently where some of us were throwing the french doors open for some fresh air cos it was hot and stuffy in there, and some of us were pulling our pashminas tighter round our shoulders or borrowing men's jackets!

In the garden the outfits ranged from bikini and denim shorts (NOT me! :D ) via summer dresses, T shirts, and light cardigans to coats done all the way up!

I'm usually warmer than most people and I consider myself quite hardy but it somehow makes me feel like a lesser human being for feeling the cold before hubby does. :o

It's always him that puts the fire on first every winter though cos I wouldn't as a point of pride even if I had icicles hanging from my noses! :p

I used to work with two women, one was a very sickly indoors kind of a person who always had a cold, and the other was a jolly hockeysticks type who used to go rowing at 5am before coming into work. They spent the whole day arguing over whether we should have the office window open or not.

Lol! :rotfl: My hubby says it's just like that in his office except it's usually boys versus girls! They've tried to reorganise the office so that "cold morsel"s (mortals? ) are near heating ducts and fresh air fans are near windows which crack open an inch, but he says it's still a bit of a warzone soem days!

He says the girls should just put a cardi on which I expect makes him very popular! :D

  • hahaha - I used to have a heater fan under my desk to keep me warm - lovely!!!!

Yes I am sitting at laptop now with heating pumping out - I've only put it on for an hour - yet if I got off my backside and did some housework then I wouldn't really need it on ............. but feeling really exhausted - 3 weeks til baby arrives and I've just done a 3 mile round trip walk to drop 3 year old son off at pre-school (husband had to take car to work today as one of my best friends called me at 5am and said - er any chance you could whizz some of my bags over to Gatwick airport only we have left them in the boot of the car at home - so husband to the rescue - bless him I think it really was a case of minutes to spare). Also I can't get motivated to do any housework because my son crying when I left - he hasn't taken to pre-school like I thought he would - its so hard I feel awful - he only goes 2 mornings a week.
  • we have had the fire on for an hour or two in the evening, but not as much as we did last year. Im making a huge effort to not use the little heater this year ( those things go through electric like theirs no tomorrow ) and wear jumpers etc instead ( oh and lots of soups and tea! )

Tempted to put it on today, but I get warm with the heater at work and in the car, then I keep moving at home! Bless the Wii Fit!
  • Well I'm back on the 'no heating' challenge . Strictly speaking I shouldn't turn it on til 6 October having had it on all last week, but I'll aim for 1 October then see :D

I went to Primark and bought some tafetta (or summat silky) throws for the sofa and it feels so lovely and warm that I can't get off the bloody thing! I also lit some candles in the living room and was surprised at how warm the room felt. Of course I did actually have the door closed which I don't normally, so I'll see how much of a difference it makes with all the internal doors (minus the bathroom) open.

My local Primark didn't have much winter stuff which I was disappointed about, but I did get a cheap Beanie and some knee highs. I'll wander off to my local market at lunchtime to see if long socks have put in an appearance yet.
