How to use coupons as cash discussion

Tigermoo, it seems to be very hit and miss recently. My local ASDA used to be great, but now they don't accept coupons unless you've bought the product (new policy). As for Tesco, my regular on-the-route-home Tesco will no longer accept internet coupons but magazine ones are fine, Tesco Express will only accept if you have bought the item, BUT my local Tesco Extra (big 24hr) store WILL accept coupons (including internet ones :j ) but for how long I'm not sure... I wish Tesco would stick to one policy, it just gets frustrating if you don't know what coupons will be accepted where. I'm considering writing to me on-the-route-home Tesco because they make you feel like scum for handing over coupons (what's that I just wiped off the bottom of my shoe? Oh, a couponner!)...0

Which one is it that's on your way home - is it Redruth cos I haven't tried coupons in there yet. I sent my OH to Camborne Tescos last week with a few coupons (mainly couponnet ones) and the SA wasn't sure what to do with them so she called the manager over - he said oh yes we take those (apart from he wouldn't take ones that didn't have a Valassis code on them) anyway OH heard the SA chatting to 2 other SA's about the coupons as he was leaving - it seems that none of them had ever come across them before! They will have done by the end of the night though cos I gave OH some to hand out to other shoppers that expired that evening that I couldn't use multiples of!
It would be easier if all stores followed a national policy on coupons - at least then people would know where they stood. As it is at the moment it is barmy, cos it isn't even as if it is just varies by store but by who serves you! However on the whole I am fairly happy with my Extra store, so far they have taken most of my coupons - just sometimes 1 week a coupon will scan and the next it won't, so it's a case of trying it and seeing.0 -
Really need to give this a go - keep up the good work everyone!0

Yes Kathie1101, that's the Redruth store. The supervisors there seem to have a special 'coupon radar', since they seem to rush over to ensure I'm not trying to diddle them with 'dodgy coupons' . Quite frankly it's got embarrassingusing even magazine coupons in the Redruth branch, they're a bit over-zealous with their attitude really.
I like the Extra store at Pool best, since they still seem to accept internet coupons as well as the regular ones from magazines.0 -

Thanks for letting us know which one it is. I don't often go to Redruth Mr T's, but good to be forwarned that they are funny beggers. Must admit that I haven't had any problems with the Extra store either, just some coupons won't scan, and so far been happy to take quite a few. Must admit though I have a small knot in my stomach each time I hand them over wondering what sort of reaction I'm going to get after reading on here the way some people have been talked to by SA's and supervisors! It's as if some people think we are 2nd class citizens for using coupons - but the way I see it is that it is free money and who in their right mind would throw free money away???

I used to work on a checkout in Tesco when I was a nipper, and somebody came through my till on a very busy Saturday. She had a handful of couppons for products she wasn't buying. When I questioned it, she thrust a letter into my hand saying that it was legit and she would be calling a supervisor if I didn't hurry up and scan her shopping.
I rang for a supervisor myself, but in the end I just let it go - she was wholly unpleasant.
Got called up in front of the store manager the next day - they wanted the money back off me! I of course refused, and the matter was dropped, but before you do this, bear in mind that the poor person behind the checkout will probably get it in the neck for it.
hi i also want to add to this. What we have to remember is that coupon mal redemption is stealing. if you hand over a £2 voucher for whiskers cat food, and you havent bought the product, tesco still charge whiskers £2 as the coupon was redeemed. So you are effectively stealing from whiskers.. its a sad world where people think that this is right!STARTING BALANCE JAN 09 £47,400
Debt left 24th December 2010 - 13611!!!!!:j
Update may 2013 - debt left £8000
Update oct 2014 - £25000 -

I get what you're saying cakey, BUT if it is Tesco's policy to accept the coupons when the product has not been purchased who are we to argue? The manufacturers must know that this happens, surely?
It's a bit like someone being better off 'on benefits' than going out to work, you have to change the system 'cos you can't blame the people for taking what's being offered. (I DO work by the way!)

Had success with my 1st coupon attempt in Tesco yesterday. Used the Airwick £6 off coupon, but seeing as the actual item it was valid for was almost £12 decided to pop the smaller £6 version in my trolley instead:rolleyes: SA didn't query so went back again today with a £2 coupon & bought another.
Well pleased...got two items for total of £4 instead of £12:j
Wouldn't normally buy these extravagances but must admit the house does smell lovely.
Also, the one i got yesterday stated "lasts up to 30 days", but the one i picked up today said 60 days...even better!0 -
I was told this week that Asda Have a new policy coming in, from November you can only use the voucher is you buy the product. The cashier said she was told the is going to be across the board with other supermarkets. I don't know if the last bit is true or she was just trying to make Asda look better. This cashier is one I go to most weeks and is very good with customers. She said they all got a letter telling them the new policy and start date. Thanks for any help and advice given
