  • I agree Coupon-Mad, I'm not going to give up. I think I'll keep a small stash of coupons on me and try them each time I go to Tesco. The worst that can happen is they say no, right? ;)

I just got £7 off using a pile of coupons - I'd bought some products but not others. I'd a duplicate of a Mr T's only voucher. The 1st one worked as I'd bought one of the product but he 2nd didn't. Anyway took the receipt to CS and they gave me another 50p back as they could see I'd bought the product!! £7.50 off a £50 spend - plus free washing powder, and a whole pile of yellow label bread!!!

  • Hi
I am newbie here and this is my 1st post.. sorry if i post something wrong...

Last week I tried using branded coupons (Huggies, anchor, etc.,) at Tesco.. But no luck.. the cashier at the till said we accept coupons only if you buy the product. Anyone know Tesco near Bracknell Which accepts MOC's, even if we don't buy the product. .. Thanks for the help experts..

Its worth trying a different cashier - I've always found the younger staff more likely to take coupons. Also I try to find a few coupons for products I do want - and hand over a pile the top 1 or 2 that I have bought the product, and say can you see if any of these will work?

Just a quick note on using store specific coupons in tescos eg somerfield, sainsburys etc etc yesterday I was in tescos and using the self scan as I always do the coupon box was very full so I asked my friendly operator to empty it which he did anyway he found some somerfield vouchers in there(not mine)and said that the people who used those vouchers can be traced providing they used there clubcard.
So do not use vouchers that are out of date or not to be used in tescos.
You will just spoil it for everyone, there are enough vouchers around in date and not store specific for us all to save some money.
I have saved thousands over the last four years by using coupons but have never used out of date or store specific where I shouldnt have.

I agree with ruthiejane, sounds like you got an old bag of a cashier vahesha. Don't give up at the first hurdle, it's worth it to make savings even if not every time.

Look for a younger/friendlier cashier next time, and if still told no then bite the bullet and say you know Tesco coupon policy doesn't require you to buy the item, so can they check with their Supervisor please?

  • Definately do try again if you ever get a knock-back, as I did just 2 days after being told "sorry we don't accept internet coupons any more" (same Tesco store). Lo and behold, chose a different cashier and managed save myself a fiver with my trusty coupons, hurrah! :j
  • I shopped in sainsbury's this morning and the young lad on the checkout took £11.08 worth of vouchers from me to bring my £71 shop down to £60. I never assume they will take any vouchers so what they do take is always a bonus. I only ever use 1 of each voucher and always check dates. If they say NO I never argue I just say ok and put them back in my purse, knowing that when I shop again the next time I will offer them up and see what reaction I get. Some cashiers say pass them all over and scan the lot others take a few. In my opinion though I appreciate any money saving so thank you :money: for the opportunities given on this site.

Warning to wilkie and other newbies:

Sainsburys do NOT have a policy to allow coupon use without buying the product. If you get spotted you could get in big trouble as they might see what you are doing as deception.

Don't do this in Sainsburys (or in Boots, Superdrug, Morrisons, Somerfield...etc)!

The only stores which allow coupons without buying the product are:

    Tesco
    Asda
    Waitrose

And even with these 3 stores you need to find out if your local has a store maximum, typically 10% or maybe 3 coupons per transaction, especially in smaller stores where they can't cope with - or redeem - huge amounts of coupons.

Most Waitrose will want to be sure their store stocks the item on the coupon (but you don't have to buy it). Other stores - e.g. smaller Tesco stores - won't allow magazine coupons unless they sell the magazine, because redemption of newspaper & magazine coupons is often done by each store directly with the supplier so they can't 'get away with it' like they do with centralised coupon redemption.

The SA would not scan ANY, and when I politely asked why not she said it has been store policy not to accept 'internet' coupons for the last 6 weeks.
    .

I'm new to this thread - be gentle with me, please!

Just to report that my Tescos now won't accept any internet coupons, but, more worryingly I think, will only accept ONE for an item you haven't bought, per shop. I thought it was always the case that if you hadn't bought the item, you could only use one MOC for that product, but you could do this on as many different products as you wanted. I'm really disappointed, this will make a big difference to my budget if it's really official policy now - been told it twice in the last week.

    Can anyone corroborate this?

    TIA
