Our local Tesco Extra store, newly opened in Cradley Heath in the West Midlands, refuses to accept any coupons printed by ones self from the Internet.0

Having used coupons myself in the past and still do I was concerned to this written on the website of Martin's Money Tips.
Please don't get caught out for being sneaky!!
Warning! Don't sneak it through self-scanning machines
Some self-scanning check-outs let you scan multiple coupons even when you're not buying their products. Yet this is the worst way to do it, these machines operate based on trust, and by deliberately using incorrect coupons without permission you could be accused of fraud.
If you want to try and use coupons for goods you're not buying, be upfront and give them to the cashier, then you're being honest and it's the store's decision whether to allow it.0 -
Reading this thread with interest - I always remember my Mum using coupons when I was a kid and I'm certainly not too proud to use.
For those of you registered with mutualpoints they have a link to couponnet now that earns you 5 points for each voucher you download and print.Every penny's a prisoner

I think coupons are great and I have used them for the last 5 years. I used to keep a spreadsheet of how much I have saved but dont bother anymore.
I've got a few tales to tell on the subject but some read a little unbelievable (ie a manager of an Asda store scanned £200 worth of coupons for me on a single shop, yes, you wouldnt believe it, but it happened! All with his blessing) so wont post them here!
My one golden rule is:-
NEVER argue with / question an operator if they dont accept them. Certainly dont call a supervisor over and start showing letters from HQ, it just annoys them (who likes to be told their job?) draws attention to you will likely cause you problems in the future. Just try a different operator next time.
Happy couponing!0 -
Thanks very much for that. Any feedback from people who do it regularly is greatly appreciated! :T

I used to work on a checkout in Tesco when I was a nipper.
Me too- it's how I cottoned onto and began using the coupon policy in the early 90s. Seems my store followed the policy and yours didn't. I remember sweeping up the day Femidom was launched -£4 coupons in a 25p paper in the days where Tesco were allowed to take 6 identical coupons in the same transaction, even if you didn't buy the product.
There's NEVER an excuse for a rude couponing customer, but there's also no need for a Tesco operator to refuse to take the coupon if it falls within HO policy. Maybe the customer was frustrated that she felt she had to explain the policy again to staff who hadn't been trained correctly?
I'm imagining there will be some Tesco staff who will first become aware of head office's own policy as a result of Martin including this in his email. :rolleyes:Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I had a horrible cashier the other day, she said she knew that she could accept them without me buying them but she would have to check each item was stocked by tesco - when I said I had checked she tutted and started scanning them but kept saying they wouldn't scan and muddling them up with ones she had scanned on purpose! she put my £5 newspaper one to one side and didn't even scan it! She said very loudly to the lady behind me that she would be a long time because I had coupons and when I pointed out that she hadn't scanned my £5 newspaper one she huffed and called over a supervisor who said he would start again on another till! she said 'well good luck'!! the supervisor was super efficient and scanned every single one! Why are some people so horrible and some just get on with it! - definalty will just use one or two from now on!! ( I only used 10 because I was skint and needed food!)Best Threads -

No, IMHO online shopping has less couponing advantages for money off than instore shopping. I know there are loads of codes around but nothing beats going instore with a pile of mixed, completely legit, MOCs and seeing your bill come down by 50% or more!
I think Tesco delivery drivers would only be able to accept a 'spend & save voucher' from you at the door (e.g. Tesco - or any other major Supermarkets' - £2 off £20 spend or whatever, as long as it's in date, doesn't stipulate a product or range only a total spend, and you are spending the required amount).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
