Are there any yellow question/exclamation marks within the Device Manager?Trillionaire wrote: »Hi guys.
I checked Device Manager, and, quess what..............
.......It's showing IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers
When I click on that it shows - OHC Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller:j
Wow.
When I double click on that it shows ''This device is working properly.
If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter''.
I have yet to have any sort of helpful Wizard turn up.
Does this mean that I can just plug in my camcorder and away we go? I'm scared to actually try it. I will wait for your replies before I do anything else as I feel a bit scared.:D0 -
Hiya:wave:
My hubby plugged in the camcorder and EVERYTHING IS GOING SMOOTHLY:j
A 'Video Capture Wizard' actually popped up and prompted us through capturing video into Windows Movie Maker:T
I've loaded one tape on and it's just creating a file as I type - it's quite slow.
THANKS YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP. I COULDN'T HAVE DONE ANY OF THIS WITHOUT YOU:beer:
Now that I'm in the 'process' is there any tips for me?
Also, I'm going to want to put it all onto DVD and wipe it off my pc as it will take up too much space on my c drive to leave it there. Which dvds should I use? I would like to transfer 2hrs (at least) onto a dvd at 1 time.
Donnie, now that windows has captured the video and made a file, what should I do about downloading Nero 8? Would it be best to download it and then capture the rest of my videos using it?
I'm going to be on my pc a little while, so I'll check back in a bit:D:j I hope my comment helps :T0 -

Excellent news, how tottaly wrong the title of this thread is its gone from "Call me stupid but...." to you upgrading your pc and sorting your movies out. Thats what I call progress well done. And all in 4 pages of posts"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Just be patient, from here on in. It's not the fastest process in the world. The rendering process can take hours - I often leave it to run overnight.
Many congratulations, by the way!0 -

Window Movie maker does not have native DVD Video support, so you'll need a burning program with DVD Video capability anyway.
If you are happy using Windows Movie maker, you can try using it in conjunction with DVD Flick.
Basic instructions for WMM(though use PAL instead of NTSC) here.
Otherwise the Nero 8 suite will be an all in one solution. It will also perform 'fit to disc'. In other words, it will adjust the quality of the picture so that you can fit two hours of material on to each DVD.
Note that video processing is quite intensive work for your PC, so it is not unusual for it to respond more slowly than usual.0 -
Hello again everyone.
I thought I'd pop this thread into 'actives' again for those who might find this information useful. I've revisited it again as we're going to increase the memory on my mum's dell computer:j
I still haven't uploaded my camcorder movies after all that:rotfl: Still, I plan to do it over this half term :T:j I hope my comment helps :T0 -
