  • I'm going to put the memory in first tomorrow. I'm feeling well scared about doing:eek: but, 'nothing ventured nothing gained.' If that goes well I'll probably put the pci card in sunday. My reasoning for doing it that way is to make sure that I have enough memory to put my videos on.

When I look on page 51 of my manual it shows 'memory module connectors (DDR3, DDR4) in the System Board Components diagram. Yet on page 52 it says that 'your computer has two memory slots labeled DIMM3 and DIMM4'. It would be nice if is showed this on the diagram page! I'll just have to open up and see what turns up.:D

I will update how I get on tomorrow night.
    :j I hope my comment helps :T
  • Ok. Couldn't wait for tomorrow. Memory now updated:j Yipee:D

    Now for the PCI card.

I might hire myself out (with my hubby) for upgrading other computers!

    THANKS DONNIE.

Remember, I gonna need help with editing the videos;)

Congratulations, so how much memory have you got now?

  • Hi Shadowdragon.

My computer is working sooooooooooo much quicker, it's almost unbelieveable.

The things is, when I click on my computer and then C drive it's showing exactly the same as I post before above. I have no idea why.

Plus, we put in the pci card and it's not showing anywhere on my computer. The 'add new hardware wizard' has turned up, which the manufactor said would automatically happen! I tried to add it manually but we have no idea where it should go or, basically, how to do it properly!! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • I mean the' add new hardware wizard' HASN'T turned up.

I wonder if we have installed it properly. I mean, how hard can it be? It slotted in ok.

The C: drive is your hard disk, not your RAM that you have increased!

Did you plug the PCI card in when the PC was powered down? The new hardware should be found when you boot up, if you seated the new card properly. Try looking in Hardware, Device manager for a yellow exclamation mark, then add the necessary driver.

  • The memory detected is 1gb ram

  • Espresso we turned off and plugged out everything before putting in the pci card which seemed to slot in properly. We're going to power down, plug out everything again and take it out and then try installing it again. Putting in the memory turned out to be way much easier, and I had thought the memory part - having to put in two matched pairs - would have been harder!

Plus, can anyone tell me why my computer no longer shows the smilies? It did yesterday. Now, instead of the little men jumping up and down in my signature I now have 'x' in a box instead. Why?

You may not need to uninstall the card and reinstall it, did you look in Hardware, Device manager? Flying Windows Key + Break key, Hardware, Device manager. If you have not install the driver, it's not likely to work.

Coincidence, nothing to do with your PC modifications, some others have also had this problem displaying certain forum images.

Just back from training and food shopping..... I see things are moving apace. :) Good news about the RAM.

As espresso writes, it is altogether likely that you need to install a Driver( a piece of software that allows your PC to communicate with the PCI card).

Was there a CD supplied with the card? You will have to insert that into your DVD drive. When the wizard appears, you can choose to let Windows install the driver automatically(whilst the CD in the drive).

If it's already been placed inside the PC, again as espresso pointed out Flying Windows Key + Break key > Hardware, > Device Manager and check for yellow question or exclamation marks.
