  • Well I've got our first two viewings today. Quite surprised really, we've not even put a sign up as we were not expecting much and just thought we'd go on quietly to see what happened.

One has sold and not sure about the other.

My house is very tidy :)

  • Hi ya

Yeah i suppose we could rent but i think that would just be a nightmare with 2 kids and the 3rd due in feb! Plus my hubby has a fish tank collection 2 of them are over 6 foot and moving them into one place is gonna be a nightmare in itself let alone moving them again - plus they need a seperate room!

I think we may accept the offer and continue to look around i suppose and hope that everything falls into place, do you think the prices are gonna come down even more? so it would be best to accept the offer now right? cos we could lose even more £? God its so confusing!
Starting to do the odd comp ;)

Uhhh! Fish!.....Daughter has a fish tank too. She had two, but we've reduced it to one. It's less than half the size of yours though. Mind you, daughter also has ferrets, and their run is gigantic. It will need people stonger than I am to shift it, but we'll cross that bridge.....

The real problem is that you are being squeezed at both ends here so, quite rightly, you feel you haven't got a deal on both fronts. The market next year is a big unknown, but the great majority of forecasters think it will carry on falling. I'm certainly banking on it doing so. There could possibly be a small 'bounce' in the early spring, but I wouldn't put my money on that happening. Like others, I can't see where the money will come from to make any kind of sustained recovery happen in 2009. We might not see drops like this year, but it wouldn't be surprising if we did, especially if the recession turns into a depression.

That's how I see it, but I'm just an ordinary seller, like you. We took an 18% drop, which isn't far off your 20%. Each area is different, so that has put us back at about mid-2005 according to Nethouseprices data for my road.

All I can suggest is that you look at what you are being offered in a historical context and make a decision with that in mind. In the end, no one can make that choice for you. At present a whole range of other factors come into the final choice too, like your level of job security.

Best of luck. I really feel for you & yours making this choice.
  • Have had my feedback:

Viewers 1: want something bigger (haven't sold theirs anyway)

Viewer 2: didn't want something as big :rotfl: but loved everything about the house and loved the feel of it. Has gone away to think about it

Well my viewing booked for today was a no show, I just think it is so rude.

Worked all week, took little one to swimming lessons this morning. Then ran round like a loon cleaning and tidying (oh and hiding things like little ones toys). For them just not to turn up it's so annoying.

The EA now does not open at weekends! but they are the last EA's in my area to still use rightmove. Times are hard.

Rant over, on the positive side I have a lovely clean and tidy house, probably lost umpteen calories with my high speed cleaning and can now chill out for about 5 minutes.

That's rotten. Happens a lot too.

Similar story. Agent 'phoned this morning to ask could our buyers come round this pm to check on one or two things? Why, yes, but OH and DD are up in London, so guess who gets to do all the tidying, hoovering etc!!!

Anyway, it's done now, as well as I can manage in the time, but I've had no lunch and I'm starving! Trouble is, they're due any moment, so I'll just have to wait.

Justpg, I'm seeing drops of 20%, sometimes 30% on asking prices at the moment, so the offer you have received doesn't surprise me. I would also suggest going into rented, with No.3 on the way, look to rent for 12 months, it will put you in a very strong negotiating position, start looking in about 8 months time.

Hi! Just joining in! We put our house on the market two weeks ago. I can see us being stuck for a while but so badly want to move! We have only lived here a year, new area, cheaper cost of living, more for the kids to do, but..... my son (14) got badly bullied and was beaten up, we presume for being an outsider (he's never been in trouble, just not that sort of kid) so he is now back where we were before, staying with friends, 250miles away. Being the neurotic mother that I am Im feeling quite out of sorts! He's my eldest (of 6) but that doesnt stop me feeling like Im missing my left arm! Is there anything I can do to promote my house on top of the estate agents work? (not even had a sniff yet but is cheapest 4bed in our area:confused: ). Any advice greatfully received!!
