PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. What a day it seems to have been!
First we have mr/ms unpronounceable telling us via The Independent that it's all Gordons' fault. Well thanks for that, but if you look at Pawpurrs' avatar, and mine, you'll see him featured in less than complimentary ways. However, this thread is a-political and blame, rightly or wrongly attributed, won't sell houses.
Then we have Conrad, who is a property professional, telling some of us we're deluded....sorry, cognitively biased....but he gets in a bit of a muddle over the word 'attenuates' and ends up contradicting himself. Well, there's quite a bit of difference between selling the family home and speculating, Mr Conrad, the main one being that you usually end up in a chain. You may also have negative equity to consider too, as LouBlue and sarah_elton have explained. In my case, I had willing buyers back in July, but they, and the people below them, had to wait for a willing FTB with no job worries to enter our happy chain and create the bottom link. All this is a million miles from finding a distressed seller and putting a cash offer in front of them.
Finally, we have someone who's had one too many, sending us a You Tube link
to one of Bruno's sick videos. The man is mentally deranged and has just come out of prison, so be warned; it's neither relevant, nor pleasant, and I've asked the mods to remove it.
After that lot, can I just repeat for the benefit of those who seem unable to comprehend, this thread is for people who are selling in the current market to relate their experiences. It isn't a place to pitch-in with advice, unless a poster has asked for a second opinion. We start with the assumption that anyone who posts here is probably bright enough to find the parallel forum 'House Prices, The Economy & The Recession' which is indeed a really super place to go for a debate or verbal fisticuffs, plus quite a bit of off-topic rambling from the regulars. People can (and do) also post on this Forum, rather than this thread, if they want lots of answers to a particular house selling problem.
Thanks for your understanding.0 -
Sorry to hear your bad news Pawpurrs. I hope things get better for you soon.0

Welcome to the thread, nellie. Don't go near any cash offering companies, whatever you do, as there's no such thing as a free lunch in this business, but I think you know that!
Yep - I know - but what a lovely thought! We've taken on board all of the current doom and gloom and have dropped the house price by just over 10 per cent, to try and kick start viewings! lets be honest - it can get worse - just trying to get ahead

No news for me today from my second viewing diether. Hubby was made redundant today with no pay:rolleyes:
Very sorry to read this. It's a double blow when the usual pay and redundancy money isn't forthcoming either. These times are going to be tough for so many of us.
Does this mean that your sale is on hold, or are you still considering the next step?0 -

I apologise up front, I am not selling a house but sold one about 18 months ago.
At the moment only sell if you need to sell. If you must sell then you can not say 'I can't afford to sell it for that'. What will happen in 6 months time when the offers are 10% less, can you affiord to sell it then?
I feel particularly sorry for anyone being made redundant but these are the realities and once we come out of the post christmas comfy bubble we will realise that a house is worth what someone will pay for it.
At the moment you have to be the cheapest in the street and if you get 90% of asking price then you've done well. That is what the current market value is, beware of assuming that some 17 year old in a 50 quid suit from the local EA has any more of a clue about market values than we do.0 -
Keeping the house on the market at the moment. Untill we decide what we want to do, we are considering a move abroad or back to the village we were happy in, if we sell, and have the equity at least we can pay rent up front, in a very difficult situation as we dont know what to do at the moment! We have no savings and a holiday just taken to pay for! We do have two cars so one of those needs to be sold, unfortunetly its still at the car repair shop at the moment, from the accident you may remember a few mths back!
Sigh, it never rains eh!Pawpurrs x0 -
So sorry to hear about your hubby Pawpurrs - hope you get a cash ladden buyer any day now giving you a change of luck.Looking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

The people on this thread want to sell now, so they are doing what they can to make a sale a reality within what they find acceptable or possible, depending on their position.
For some, the choices they are able to make are limited, while for others the courage or motivation to take a daring financial decision may not be there, and yes, for these people a sale may not be forthcoming. However, at least they will have tried.
This thread is where those in the real world of property sales can share their trials, tribulations and occasional successes. It is vastly different from those on the other forum about house prices, which is informative & entertaining, but mostly conducted at a purely theoretical level.
Can I ask you what your selling/buying position is?0
