yes, you can! I do and it's very sucessful but that may be because I have the Panasonic 255 which has a gluten-free setting. Which breadmaker do you have?
You have to remember that with gluten-free bread the texture is never going to be as fluffy as white bread , it has a flatter top and it's normal for some flour to be on the outside of the loaf once it's cooked. That said, my gluten-free bread is as close to a fluffy white loaf as I can get but only on the first day. After that it goes drier in texture so then I slice it and freeze it in 2's ready to be toasted straight from the freezer.
I follow the recipe in the Panni recipe book using Dove's Farm white bread flour. I'll happily copy it out for you but maybe you could tell us whether you have a gluten-free setting or not on your breadmaker as I think that might mar the loaf?Penny0 -
OH has coeliac disease. He gets gluten free bread on prescription (the Juvela white sliced loaves) which is pretty decent, but I know he misses fresh bread (I feel guilty when I bring a fresh crusty loaf in with me from Morrisons and he can smell it!).
I've looked at gluten free bread recipes online and the ones that have really good reviews have a lot of expensive ingredients (various types of obscure flour). The simple recipes don't seem to be well-rated.
Has anyone on here used a gluten free bread recipe that's given good results?
I don't have a bread maker and I'd like to start with a recipe that can be done in the oven as it's cheaper than investing in a maker, in case he doesn't like the results.0 -
I use the juvela glutin free mix this is available on prescription and gives very good results ,it also makes a lovely victoria sponge cake if made using butter,for some reason marg does not work so well .0

Thanks Sue - we could try that as he has spare slots on his prescription. Does the bread mix packet come with a recipe?

I have to say that I have never managed to make really good gluten free bread, it just doesn't seem to work. I guess the basic principle of bread is the gluten that traps the air bubbles, so it is difficult without! You can get a few different kinds at the supermarket, but they are ridiculously expensive and not that great.
Cakes work very well with rice flour.:beer:0 -

:jHave just made seven lovely jars of marmalade. Just wanted to share the fact that is was so EASY!! I bought a tin of Homecook marmalade from my local supermarket about €2.19 Im sure you will get the equivalent in Asda or whatever your local is. Just add the sugar which was about 4lb and water. The result is gorgeous. Just popped the jars into the pantry, after trying it of course.:TVisa £[STRIKE]5063 [/STRIKE]now 0. Loan 1 €[STRIKE]4885[/STRIKE] now 0. It does make very nice marmalade. I find making real Seville orange marmalade a bit tricky, it doesn't always set very well, (or else it sets like dark treacle if you take your eye off it for a second at the wrong time) however at this time of year I often make three fruit marmalade which has got sweet oranges lemons and grapefruit peel in it and that is really easy even doing it from scratch because the grapefruit peel really helps it to set.
If you want to get into making marmalade the best book I have ever found is a little paperback which you can get from Smiths called The Right Way to Make Jams. It's absolutely foolproof.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
It's so very satisfying seeing jars of preserves lined up that you've made yourself! I made strawberry jam this week. Went to a PYO farm near us and got about 4 kilos. Ended up with 15 jars. Yum!0

I made a load of this at xmas and my dad said it was "better than Fortnum's". Although what he's doing wasting his money on Fortnum's marmalade I don't know, seeing as he can't afford to fix the boiler or the heating!
Now he wants me to make more. But I really hate the smell of oranges0
