Not put mine on yet, even though it's been cold in evenings.Bought myself really attractive fleecy nightie (not) to wear in evenings and have a nice thick blanket
Last year hardly had heating on and still had a bill for £150 so god knows what its going to be this year.

I've found it a bit chilly in the evenings here over the last few days, but definitely not chilly enough to make me put the heating on. Was wearing a t-shirt each day until then, but now popped a sweatshirt over the top, and I'm fine. Usually have the back door open for a couple of hours a day too, so that the animals can come and go as they please. perhaps that's toughened me up a bit :D

  • All fired up ok but a couple were a bit cold at the bottom still and hadn't heated up to the same level as the others but they were the ones furthest away from the boiler.....if that means anything:confused: Too hard for me, I've made a note and will leave it up to OH, if not looks like the man from BG will have to take a good look on his annual inspection.

Good evening: You have 'sludge' in your central heating system...if you mention this to the BG guy, you'll get a very expensive quote for a powerflush:eek:.

My OH's time is booking up quickly...the start of the heating season is always good for business.;)
When our programmable roomstat hits 18 then we'll have heating but we're not there yet here on the 'sunshine' coast (the cavity wall and loft insulation helps).

  • I put mine on last night, just to test the ch system you understand. I bled the radiatiors and a lot of air came out of 2 on the top floor. I then increased the water pressure in the boiler to within the green zone so its all huncky dory now. I am giving in on cold, damp days as I am convinced my lingering sinus problem, post nasal drip and sore throat are linked to the dampness in the air. The house warmed up in 5 minutes and it felt much more cosy. Oh well, I reduced energy consumption to a minimum and that is easy in the `summer` months, now it`s time to dip into the savings pot again. I am only going on an as-needed basis at the moment. No need for auto yet

I put my heating on for 2 hours last night and on for 6 this morning. I kept waking up in the night because I was so cold. Good job OH was on nights I have my pjymamas and thick wooley bed socks on, mmmmm. My nose was cold though and I couldn't do anything about that lol.- so on went the heating. Plus also I have a 3yr old (excuses excuses).

It is such a worry now though, you just darent put the heating on because of the expense - I so understand how worrying it is for the elderly. I worry to death about the g&e bill and I'm only 34.

I have only just started using a quilt again and still kick it off the bed some nights.
I have a number of stages to go through before my heating goes on, I keep adding a layer of clothes and depending on whether I am sitting around or active this means my heating seldom goes on before November and even then at a minimum setting.

I'm beginning to think I'm unnaturally cold, you all seem to be so strong at leaving the heating off. I put mine on for an hour last night and took a hot water bottle to bed. I also have a duvet, a thick throw and a cotton open weave blanket on.
