My better half is making murmerings about being cold and now i face an uphill battle to keep the heating of (which i will lose!)

I was enjoying seeing my gas meter hardly move for the last 4 months

We've had the fire on in the lounge the last couple of nights and feeling cold in the rest of the house. Yesterday I wore two jumpers and socks! I'm dreading putting it on as I know once it's on that's it.

yeah - it's been really wet here recently and in the evenings it gets really chilly. I am not putting the heating on for as long as possible though - so it's extra jumpers and socks for us at the moment.

Was in ASDA the other day and bought a lovely cream fleece for over the sofa to keep us warm while watching tv - a bargain at only £1.77 :D

  • Mines not been on yet and will be holding back as long as possible.

Have been a bit chilly on a night but when I would normally put the fire on, Im snuggling with a blanket.

Will be looking around for a nice flleecy one to see me through the cold months to come.

Technically mine is on, but then its permanantly on waiting for the thermostat to trigger it. Ours kicks in if the inside temperature drops below 18C during the day or 14C overnight. Last night I came back from a meeting at 11pm at the thermostat was still showing 19C at a time when it would need to be 14C to trigger the heating so hopefully a bit more time will go before it will come on. Yes we have had the "its freezing" conversations but we still have the summer duvet on, and part of it is just reaclimatising to the lower temperatures we put up with over winter - I'm still wandering around in a T shirt most evenings! This will be our first winter with the new heating system - its already halved the consumption on hot water alone so it'll be interesting to see what it uses to heat the house when the heating finally starts working.

I never feel the cold , go to bed with nothing on , wander round in vests and shorts , i wish my missus would ;)

as for the thermostat , how much bother is it to replace our old dial one with a digital one , anyone know ? rough price etc ?
  • Good grief, no! If DDs aren't here, the heating doesn't go on at all, even in winter. Unless my RA gets so bad I can't move my hands at all or pick up a cuppa tea. At the mo, I'm sitting here wearing woolies and fingerless gloves (because my hands hurt), but until the wind turns and blows E - NE and it feels as though the snow queen is putting splinters of ice into every joint, the heating stays off. I'm aiming for November 1st, but suspect I will have to turn it on when the kids have a shower by October.
