That's not whats happened here at all - what's happened in this case in only the same as countless B&Bs/Hotels refusing booking for big groups of the same sex.... so what that one particular group may not be rowdy or wreck the room, a lot do. That's the issue.

No they can not refuse for whatever they want.
" im not letting you in because your black" Im not letting you in because your jewish" "Im not letting you in because your gay"
Thats ok is it because that is exactly what has happened here. Dont loose sight of the core principle that is being discussed here!
Ridiculous ill informed comment.
I think you will find it is illegal (although I am not denying it has happened)to brutalize soldiers as part of their training. Soldiers are hardened during training both physically and mentally to a great extent that is nessecary. Soldiers are brutalised by what they see and what they experience. How many times do you think you have stayed in a hotel in which brutalised soldiers or indeed any human beings have been brutalised is staying, where you attacked or brutalised by them?
I recall pushing a trolley around Sainsnburys in a South East English town passing by women and happy smiling children only 48 hrs previously I had been in Kandahar (Afghanistan) subject of a suicide bomb attack in which 4 young children had been blown to peices we had been the target, I remember washing the young flesh and blood off our vehicles, chunks of flesh. Could those people in the supermarket begin to imagine that, did it make me want to brutalise anybody? no it filled me with compassion for my fellow human beings and made me realise the reasons we defend what is good. Of course if you think soldiers are incapable of compassion then I feel sorry for you. I have met bad ppeople who are soldiers, But The finest human beings I have ever met have also been soldiers. We see the world how it really is consequently we now the value of peace and liberty and it doesnt come free, ever!0 -

Does hyperbole know no limits?
Edit: Forgot '[strike]injured[/strike] mortally wounded'
I didnt say they refused anyone else entry I was trying to make a point of principle. That being that what happened was discriminatory the fact it was against a soldier is not the point it could just as well been you and that is the point I am making, its not hyperbole.
This kind of discrimination is illegal in our country.0 -

While I possibly agree with your last comment, I'm at a loss to figure out why you're replying to yourself...

actually hotels like pubs can refuse anyone they want without need to give reason.
im not sure why they stopped him because he was milatarty but if they had just said sorry we have no rooms , NO issue, or sorry you do not have the correct id, No issue ]
we only know one side of the story so we should not jump to conclusions based on a media report that will delibrately try and sensationlize a simple matter of refusal

They can refuse entry, Have you ever thought why there is no reason to give explanations?
They know they cannot refuse entry on discriminatory grounds so they give no reason.
Apply your logic! the reason to exclude is for the provisions of law like anti social behavior etc and it has to be specific not general, similar to a person being barred from a club.
This is a point of principle think of yourself and imagine for no good eason being excluded, then think of an unworthy discriminatory reason for which you could be excluded, haw would you feel.0 -

I apologise if I have misunderstood your post, but there does not have to be a specific reason to ban anyone - you are either banned, or you aren't. The same applies to shops.0 -

Yes you are right but you cannot do it in a discriminatory manner! its illegal
Thats why they give no reason and thats why the legislation is set up that way or indeed not set up.
Because if they did have to state why they would be prosecuted unless it was a legally enforcable exclusion.
I think you are missing my point.0 -
As Britain's worst mass murderer in recent years was Harold Shipman, is it acceptable to ban all doctors from hotels?
Men make up about 90% of our armed forces, so I would say that this is indirect discrimination against males - which IS unlawful. What would happen if they had some policy against nurses or primary school teachers staying (say, due to a bad experience in the past)? I should imagine all our most prominent feminists would leap to their defence. It's funny how this sort of thing only ever seems to happen to servicemen, not servicewomen - are male soldiers seen as more of a threat than female ones?0
