Can you do it by secure message or does it have to be letter?

I've asked to close my account by three secure messages!!! First one on 10th. My advice would be to withdraw all but £1 first as they are very, very slow

    Hi Tony.

My voucher was for the opening the account. It said "As you've just opened a smile current account, you're obviously pretty savvy when it comes to looking after your cash....blah blah blah"

Not had one for the referal yet, but hopefully we will get them soon. The original email said:
"Wine qualification upon first credit transaction of £1500 within 8 weeks of your account being opened. Wine redemption code will be dispatched no later than 4 weeks after the date of qualification."
So it's 4 weeks after you first put the £1500 in (which should be around now I guess?).

Cheers again for using me :)

Interesting mr_fishbulb. Thats what i thought. You have to put the £1500 in within 8 weeks but if you do then you get voucher 4 weeks later. I messaged them to confirm and they replied it was 8 weeks after opening that you got the voucher! I don't think they know their T&Cs. However it is now 6 weeks since the account was opened and credited and still no voucher...

Well 2 days ago I sent the message quoting the T&Cs and asking why we'd not got the referal wine vouchers. Last evening we got the vouchers!! Time to close the accounts.

Will do! Just ordered the 24 bottles now.
  • FOURTEEN weeks I've now been waiting and now another of their stated deadlines missed. Apparently their much touted ethics policy doesn't extend to keeping their promises. Last message I sent threatened to close the account unless I hear within 2 days.

Never in history can a case of cheap wine have caused so much frustration and wasted time as this has. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Take my advice as I've said elsewhere - take the money out first and just leave a balance of £1.

It's taken them two weeks to eventually close my account. (First wrote on 10th March!!!)

Have already received my Virgin e-voucher and now my free 12 bottles have arrived. :j Had to phone them up to get some action, though.

Obviously, I recommended my OH to open an account when I received their email offer and again, after fulfilling the conditions, I had to chase, on her behalf. Made contact this time via secure messaging on the Smile website.

Result: 2 more e-vouchers, one for me and one for the OH. Both crates are on the way from Virgin, even as I write! Plenty stock, it seemed, of the £50 per box offer stock, so went for that on all three occasions.

    Happy drinking...

Any thoughts on if I should keep the accounts open with an absolute minimum sum in?

And where should I now stash the cash that was in the accounts, albeit for a brief period?
