The dump shop in the municipal dump in Hove just off the Old Shoreham Road is pretty good for furniture. Not the Aladdin's cave it once was now it's been all organised and prettified though.

A bit furthering along from there next to PC World (go down beside the car showroom and the entrance to PC world and it's down there) is the Martlett's warehouse with their furniture in. Some in pretty good nick. Sofa's, dining tables etc, and lots of cheap books too.

The best junk shops are in Lewes ;)

Does anyone know when the new A!di in London Road is opening? It was meant to be Jan/Feb but due the the asbestos scare it was put back. I'm looking forward to it opening as I've never been in one before, sad eh?! :rotfl:

Hmm never knew about the asbestos scare - wow! I hope it''s soon, really don't fancy going to Portslade for more pesto/parmesan/pomegranate juice

I popped in there today after work and couldn't find them and I really wanted some, although saying that I didn't go to the upstairs bit, I totally forgot about it :rotfl: . I did however get 2 large watch-type batteries (size 32??) and the only other place I'd seen them was Woolies for £4.50 each.
    Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037
    Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)
    Surveys ~ £149.19 (2024 ~ £280.14)
    Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)
  • They are upstairs near the kitchen/tupperware section... I am sure they still have some!

Veggie man on Portland road opposite Co-Op has these today:

    - Bowl cherry tomatoes £1
    - Bag of 4 or 5 peppers £1
    - 4 x tins anchovies (I think) for £1
    - Bowl of pears for £1
    - 5 lemons for£1
    - 3 leeks for £1

I got the peppers and cherry tomatoes. By the way, I reckon the following is prob not worth getting from there:

    - Red onions
    - White onions
    - Carrots

As I think these are cheaper overall in supermarkets/open market.

Turkish/Greek deli on London road has fab bags of 100g spices for £0.99, always good prices. Although if you buy alot, then the link I posted recently for a spices website would be better. Why not start a spices Co-Op and buy for the whole family/friends? Spices last for years...

I like this store but it does bug me no end how they rarely display prices on fruit and veg etc so I can't compare the costs!

Anyone been to the Sunday market at Brighton station since the redevelopment? Where is it exactly, and is it as good as it used to be?
  • went past on a bus a few months ago- saw loads of people on the top level of the carpark..

though i reckon it wil be a bit wet and windy nowadays, for a carboot??
  • Yes I've been lots over the last year, it's different and has lost some of the 'feel' but interesting nonetheless, and no more muddy feel on rainier days! Still the selection but I *think* there used to be a meat van that is no longer around in the new style market. Maybe I have missed it when it was there... veg stall is really good - lots of crates of stuff dead cheap and if you are batch cooking and have a car or big bags (or big strong man ;) - she says rubbing MrEL's ego) then well worth it

Making liquid soap tonight from one of the bars I got (pack of 5) from £0.99 store. It's called Castille soap will let you know how I get on :T

PS: Not sure of anyones ages on here but if you are over 60 there's a free day at Hove Town hall this Thurs I saw advertised on the bus. Free beverages, advice, games, local info etc. 10am - 4pm I think.
