    :hello: Hi Jimbo65, welcome!

Thanks for the tip. 5ways is not in my area but some of my work colleagues live up near there and say how good it is. I'll mention this to them as they're always after a bargain like me :D

    Welcome massimonds and Jimbo65!

Purple Vamp - I saw those £0.99p wicker baskets too and thought about it, but MIL still has the ones I got her from there last time and no-one else I know is as much of a foodie as her... might still get one for home and store until needed though.

Co-Op are still doing chicken thighs for £1.50 (happy chicken that's been well taken care of). Or you can buy a whole chicken, price per kg has been reduced.
Sainsburys are doing chicken thighs and drumsticks - £1.99 a pack, BOGOF (not happy chicken)

For anyone who buys at Bookers Cash & Carry, I was promoting our ethical bottled water there yesterday (Life Water - cheeky promotion moment to support your local water guys :D) and I saw that their aluminium foil (60 metre and 90 metre I think) and also sweet chilli sauce were good (£1.35 for big bottle that I usually buy at Thai place for £1.80ish in the Open Market).

Went down to Lloyds to bank a cheque this morning, at 9.15am only to find it didn't open until 9.30.....so, wandered along London Road, first stop, half a dozen x-large free range eggs from the Open Market 95 pence (check, sainsburys 1.40-1.60 depending on the day of the week it seems....), into Holland and Barretts for some not such good value mushroomy yeast pat!, in my defence at £2.15 I am simply addicted:D
Along to Sommerfields, superb half price offer on the Pilgrims, the very best cheddar money can buy by a country mile, 3 packs of @£1.99 each. Walked back to Lloyds, still not open 9.45, customers nervously twitching, me amongst them, only half joking to each other that they'd gone bust over night.....got fed up by 9.50 and headed for home, picked up some black pudding and bingo, one superb cheap breakfast of free range eggs, bacon, mushroom and black pudding. All inspired by you guys.
Still gotta do me banking tho, and I can feel more eggs coming home.:D

As for Ravens bread, it needs no introductions, but keep yer 'orrible mitts off the white Bloomer and Danish. They're mine, ok?!:D

Oooh Ravens - do they still do the chocolate donuts and the malt loaf? Must see if I can pop in there (although no longer over that area).

Their malt loaf warm out of the oven on a saturday morning is perfect for elevensies.

Jimbo65 - yes, the Pilgrims cheese is lovely - and at £4.99 a Kg, the cheapest yet!

Also can't beat the Open Market for eggs - I always go Saturday mornings, and I take my empty egg cartons back as she reuses them to save on packaging. Mind you, it;s only the eggs at the front that are free range apparently (the 95p ones).

Thought about getting parmesan from the egg lady but ASDA still works out cheaper at £2 for 200g. ALDI also good, £2.10 I think for the same.

I get my eggs from the stall in the middle, covered over tunnel bit, in the market - they do nice bacon there too. Still only 95p for half a dozen large free range.... but they are open at 8 am so I can pop in there on my way to work (the egg stall at the front is completely shut up at that time).

#Hi Newlywed and all.........your roving reporter can confirm, having sampled this morning :jthe malt loaf at Ravens is superb. :D
  • Oh Jim, maltloaf:D . Good job 5 ways isn't a convenient stop of for me then.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
  • Just saying hi and will bear this thread in mind when I see or hear of anything. I too am off the Lewes Rd close to the Co-Op!

All that comes to mind now:
I ate lots of tasty chocolate at a tasting stand in Infinity Foods today, and then bought a couple of 'dine for £10' deals at M&S. There is a 'Zizzi' restaurant voucher around that I may use at some point. I buy red lentils at the food shop on Lewes Rd closest to the level in big bags. I think Taj does really great reductions on use by date, though I don't get to check regularly. The Cowley Club (London Rd) is cheap for lunch if you like that sort of thing.

Pity the Pound shop on London Road up from old Co-Op has shut.

    It was well stocked.
