    Hello :hello:

First of all  to Moo on your heating costs, as you say though, it's worth it for the location; although our place is a maisonette ( basically a flat but with pitched roof & own front door onto the street  ) we're right on the edge of the village & have nothing but fields at the back & as we're on the top (first floor) we have wonderful views overlooking the fields & trees beyond. This time of year the colours are amazing & I couldnt imagine having a garden with houses all around overlooking us. It's great when it's foggy too as we're on a slight hill & it's like living on the edge of the world.

I see no reason why you should go & clear up after an event you didnt attend so well done on having another slummy mummy day :D . Brilliant news about the pay rise too, lifts the morale hugely.

The nice man from the body repair shop turned up at 7 on friday to collect the old car & duly handed over £200 without a hint of an attempt to reduce the price. I confess to feeling very emotional when he loaded her onto his trailer & felt like it was the end of an era :o . Dad came to collect us on saturday morning & was delighted when I gave him the money & quite proud of me for having sold it at a decent price. We collected the new one & was pleased with the 6 month warranty given too. Only put £10 of fuel in as will fill up on my next journey past tesco & then can work out how many miles I get out of tank. It is just a joy to drive - so quiet - although it'll take me ages to work my way around all the new gadgets & controls  .

We took my grandmother out for lunch (£20) & she had a lovely time although we all remarked that in future one glass of wine is plenty for a 94 year old who rarely drinks  .

I was a bit blown away when Dad told me that we need to arrange a cremation for my mum who passed 18 months ago. As both parents are humanist they wished to donate themselves to medical science after their deaths. We had a memorial service at the time which all family & friends came to & I assumed that was it, all over & done with. I'm not feeling upset, just wasnt expecting it & I have a feeling my brother & sisters wont be either. I can foresee some difficult decisions ahead.

Have spent most of today reading my car manual & playing vets with DD which was quite painful at times, but it's been a NSD so that's good. Off to watch top gear now :D

  • Morning Lula,

Fantastic news about your car, that's good stuff even if it was a bit emotional; have fun with your new one.

I had to giggle about your grandmother, hope she enjoyed herself :)

:grouphug: Big hugs to your re; your mum, my dad died six years ago and I remember how hard it was making decisions with my mum and my brother. I hope that all will be okay for you and your siblings; I'm here if you want to talk.

Off to update my own thread now that I have hijacked yours.

    Take care,

    Tea
    xx

P.s Hope you enjoyed Top Gear :) I love that show

Morning all, it's monday again  .

thanks for the hug Tea :A, I'm of a mind to just go with whatever decision my Dad wants to make. I think the main dilemma will be which of the family members to tell & whether to make it public or not  . So far I'm the only one that knows & I'm just keeping my mouth shut until furhter notice ;) .

Having gone to bed early last night I was up at 6.20  so have already done my transfers . So the total debt now is £ 6,303 - cc1 £ 2,595 & cc2 £ 3,707.

DD is currently stomping around in a huff because her school jumper isnt dry & she'll have to wear a cardigan  . I'm trying to wean her off staying up for Top Gear :o as it is a bit 'adult' at times, but she has a huge crush on Hammond & I can think of worse people for her to be a fan of, many & much worse .

Right I'd better go & make her a packed lunch & some breakfast, will catch up later at some point - having new electricity meter fitted today; sometime between 7 am & 1 pm  .

Bye for now & have a good day everyone

    Just a brief update ;

I now have a shiny new electricity meter  & had to endure a spanish inquisition in the process by 'macho latin type' as to why I was single ( beats me ;) ) hadnt bought the flat I live in ( that ones' easy - I dont have £200,000 spare  ) & where's my ex husband ? ( also easy ' dont know, dont care :p ). Cue lots of comic posturing & cheesy compliments about how good I look for my age... well I did say I was 238 ;) .

It's been a NSD :j & I was hoping to go fill car up with fuel tomorrow after collecting from private customer, but she's cancelled again - 3rd week in a row :( so I kind of asked for her to send me a cheque for the money owed from 3 weeks ago, was that unreasonable ? I know her husband's been made redundant but I'm living on the absolute basics here & trying to earn a living myself  .

I'm invited to meet friends at the pub for supper & chat this wednesday but was quite relieved when DD1 said she couldnt mind DD as I cant afford it :o could really do with an evening out but blew the months entertainment budget on lunch & presents for Grandmother.

I've now redeemed some lightspeed points - £20 of hmv vouchers which is brilliant as DD wants DVD's & PC game for christmas so that will help :)

Just seen weather forecast & it's meant to be dry tomorrow so I might get myself out in the garden to rake up more leaves, I was really looking forward to driving my car but I suppose that at least it's not costing me while it's sat in the garage, it could now be there until friday  .

Should be about bright & early tomorrow as intend on putting night rate electricity to good use from now on ;)

    G'nite

Lula, ceremonies months after the death are common place, if you're Jewish its all done and dusted within 24 hours of death and the ceremony is held a year to the day later. Having the shell of your mum present is just a variation on that. I speak as one whos father-in-law resides in an urn on a shrine in the kitchen but is moved to take his rightful place at the head of the table for special occassions. Theres nowt so queeer as folk and theres definately nowt so queer as my lot. Do whatever makes you and your family feel comfortable. Personally I think its fabulous that medical science has benefited from this.

Did your meter fitter give you his phone number in case of future needs?

I've had 2 NSDs in a row, mostly because I've been very determined to complete 50 x 100 word reviews on Qype to obtain a free £50 Amazon gift voucher - not only did I do it (due Dec. 10th) without resorting to slitting my wrists, although at times it was tempting, but in the process I gained enough points for a t-shirt, stickers, badges, a frisbee, memory stick, a cuddly ninja and an Ipod. Have persuaded my father to join and sign up for the challenge so am assisting him in his reviews as hes an incredibly slow single fingered typist.

Hope the weathers bright and blustery where you are Lula.

Morning guys - sorry no phone number to report

Moo well done on your report writing, that's quite a feat. Thanks for your input re the cremonies etc... I've always been aware of the donations to medical science & like you say I think it's great, I'm a blood giving organ donor ( not just yet though thanks) myself & totally into recycling of any kind, I just - naively I guess - assumed that the medical scientists would deal with it all. Possibly Dad forgot to explain at the time which is obviously understandable. He did say it was a shame he hadnt kept the cat's ashes as they could then be scattered together - cat died 4 days before Mum. Anyway, the memorial was 4 weeks after & it was just so raw & emotional that I'm thinking it could be quite nice to have a ceremony now when our world is almost rebalanced & there's been time for reflection.

Enough of that ; the washing went on at 6.30 so I need to go distribute that around the place  , I shall take DD to school then I'm going to hoover the bedrooms & living room, clean the bathroom, tidy & clear out my room, attempt to remove greenhouse from shed, remove bikes from the garage & replace into the shed & if there's any time/energy left I shall do leaf raking.

I shall update on my progress later ...
