All vouchers will work on self scan tills however once u have used 5 vouchers, or your vouchers total more than 30% off your bill, it will ask for approval by the attendant. This is not to say that you wont be able to use more vouchers or get more than 30% off. It is up to store specific policy.0 -

The limit for Self Scan isnt quite what you said above - the 30% of your bill is right, but its not capped on the quantity of coupons - its capped on the value of the coupons.
And, before you argue I'm wrong (I find CSMs like to do that from previous experience
), read the Customer Service Daily Update on HOST from a few days ago, and it clarifies the SelfScan coupon policy
Yes, I work for Mr T, but anything I say is not given as an official response or representation from Mr T, and is usually best taken with a pinch of salt, lightly toasted and served with a chardonnay or rose wine. Mmmmmmm.0 -
pwebb1985 wrote:Again this is store/management specific, but in many stores, provided the product is stocked, and you are only using one coupon for a product that you havent bought, that would be ok. If the voucher was worth £5, you could use it on a £5 transaction, but again this is provided the product is stocked.
I don't think we ever check if we stock it - the problem being the cashiers could never memorise 20,000+ lines
I know our policy is to accept one coupon from every manufacturer (e.g. Hovis) UNLESS the products have been bought to match, then you can use the same amount of coupons plus one.
e.g.
Buy 0 Hovis bread = use 1 Hovis coupon
Buy 1 Hovis bread = use 2 Hovis coupons
Buy 2 Hovis bread = use 3 Hovis coupons
etc etc.
I also seem to recall this being on the CSDU HOST... humm, must check again.Yes, I work for Mr T, but anything I say is not given as an official response or representation from Mr T, and is usually best taken with a pinch of salt, lightly toasted and served with a chardonnay or rose wine. Well I dont Joel! Jst checked HOST.
If a customer assistant does not know if a product is stocked then you call a team leader - that is exactly part of their job purpose.
If they are unsure, you then need to look this up on CSD explorer F11.
Yes this takes time, but would also save the customer time if they actually bought the product0 -

Yes, I think your right, its the value of the coupons which matters. I tried to put a couple of coupons through totalling about £3, the till took then, but when I pressed "Finish and Pay", a Supervisor Required: Coupons message came up on the screen. The Supervisor came over and said when using over £1 or maybe £2? in coupons, a supervisor override is reqquired.

Basically each store, tries to "out profit" the next, depending on you location, different stores will have different policies.
Eg. If the nearest supermarket within you town is tesco, and there is not another for about 10 -15 miles, they probably will be reluctant to accept coupons, especially for other stores (such as sainsburys or asda) as they know it is more convenient for you to shop there, and that is at store discretion. However, if you live somewhere, where rival supermarkets are very close, then you will probably find they will be more than happy to accept your coupons.
I must say, before anyone else does, that yes this is rather sneaky, but I can assure you, that after working for both asda and waitrose, that ALL COMPANIES ARE LIKE THIS, not just tesco. At the end of the day, business is business, and tesco, asda and sainsburys would have not got where they are today, if they did not work like this.
Why are some stores so fussy though about coupons. At the end of the day if a customers has coupons that your store accepts, and the supermarket down the road refuses, which one are they going to go to?.
I really cant see those manufactureres issuing coupons complaining to a supermarket the size of Tesco, and threating to withdraw their products from that supermarket if they dont accept coupons in a certain way, can you?
Supermakets are so big and powerful, they need more and more business to beat the competition. They dont care who they annoy in the process to get it, because they know the sheer power and influence they have in the marketplace.
It really isnt a big issue for them, believe me

If you have a look on Bobs free stuff forum - there's a lady who's been banned from using coupons in store by the CSM unless she actually buys the product. She points out that the store policy hasn't changed, but that certain customers who were regulary using coupons were being stopped.
This is individual stores right to choose in action. I can't argue with it, but you can avoid becoming a victim by not drawing attention to yourself. Not putting too many coupons through or as a percentage, use different checkout staff and don't use your clubcard (obvious reason)
Anyone of us could be next depending on a change of store manager / customer service manager, so take care and try to stay under the radar. There is no need to run outside

Hi Folks
Just returned from my local Tesco in Hove and they took my receipt from the temp card and credited my account 150 points!
They also took £5.00 worth of vouchers of which none of the items were bought!
I was categorically told by a stroppy supervisor in the week that the only take vouchers if you’ve purchased the item!
Low and behold the girl put three vouchers through while I'm having a go at the supervisor!
Just goes to show you should pay no attention to anything they tell you and just persevere!!
I also gave the checkout person a load of receipts for extra points, although I did buy those items. On top of that I had four vouchers for free items, so all in all a satisfactory shop.
I gave the guy so many bits of paper for differnet things and he didn't blink an eyelid!
I intend to give the temp card a good bashing again next week as they still seem to be giving out the initial 150 points to date!COMPERKING

Goodness knows why Tesco or any other supermarket get uptight about coupons/vouchers etc!
If you look at the coupons thay are all sent to a central clearing house and the supermarkets get refunded as far as I know!
Who cares anyway!
The only thing the supermarkets are after is your hard earned dosh!!COMPERKING

Absolutely, the supermarkets couldnt care less, as long as you shop with them.
As for these shoppers who have been banned from the stores, because they've been using coupons and not purchasing the products?. Oh my - how pathetic is that! :rotfl: . So the supermarket accepts the coupon and its the customer who is in the wrong?.
The only person who should be banned from the store is the stupid manager that decided to take that course of action in the first place.0
